This is a beautiful, historic home which has been thoughtfully renovated as a B&B. I did not find anything that could be improved. It seemed that everything in the room had been carefully considered and was lovely and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious. The couple running it is delightful and interesting to talk to as they shared the history of the house. They recommended several spots nearby where we could have dinner. The top choice was very busy, but we waited and the food was very good.
Wow, this place is fantastic! The house is a beautifully renovated period piece, yet has all the modern amenities. Our bedroom was inviting and comfortable. The hosts, though, are what make this B&B special. They are kind, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the local area. Our breakfast was fabulous. It's like staying at a friend's house who has rolled out the red carpet for you. You leave with a smile on your face and a desire to come back again.
I strongly recommend a stay at the Talbot House Inn in East Machias. It is 30 minutes to Lubec where you can go through Canadian customs then tour Campobello Island (Roosevelt's summer home). Michael welcomed us in the driveway and showed us to a lovely upper floor bedroom. The Inn is very clean, full of interesting furniture, history galore and the lovely breakfast served in the dining room was delicious. I would highly recommend this place to stay.
The Inn keepers, Liz and Michael were extremely helpful with all of our questions. They volunteered to arrange breakfast around the boats time schedule. We stayed in room 6 for 3 nights and it was beautiful. Big comfortable queen sized bed with lots of pillows. The antiques were beautiful and the room had all modern conveniences including a TV. Great blending of old and new. Breakfast was amazing with your choice of fresh fruit, cold cereals, muffins, bagels and then a main hot course likes strawberry stuffed french toast. The Inn is really close to Rt 191 which you take into Cutler to see the puffins. I would definitely stay there again as there are many hiking trails around. We saw bald eagles just walking around the grounds.
My wife and I were travelling from Boston to PEI and chose the Talbot House as our layover. What a treat! The refurbished house has excellent guest rooms that have a historic feel. The bed was comfortable, plenty of room to relax with armchairs, and great bathroom. The host are very welcoming, friendly, and informative. The location is great with easy access. And breakfast was great!
