My wife and I stayed two nights in January. Due to rescheduled flights we didn't arrive till late but we were greeted with refreshing towels and cold fruit juice which was most welcome. Although it was late we were still offered dinner but as we were very tired we declined but the pot of tea brought to our room was most welcome. Our room was an excellent size and very comfortable with the air conditioning most welcome in the heat of Colombo although the lounge area downstairs did not have air conditioning making it a little uncomfortable to sit in.
Breakfast was fine and plentiful even though by some lack of understanding we got somebody else's the first morning.
We were served dinner on the roof top garden the second night, both choosing the Seer Fish on the recommendation of the hotel manager, the whole meal was excellent and we were entertained by the huge Fruit Bats flying by as we ate.
All the staff were friendly and efficient, the manager in particular made us very welcome and being aware of our interest in bird watching went out of his way to spot different birds for us.
It was our first hotel on our tour of Sri Lanka and we couldn't have chosen a better place to start, highly recommended.
We spent 3 wonderful and relaxing nights at Villa Escondite before we started our wildlife tour throughout southern Sri Lanka. We arrived quite late from Delhi, and Rumani, the assistant manager, greeted us with a smile and a refreshing iced washcloth. Our room was comfortable and nicely decorated in a very quiet setting. There is a spacious sitting room off the pool area, and one can either dine right by the pool or on the large roof top area with a view of the surrounding area. Deepal, the manager, is both very friendly and a very knowledgeable bird enthusiast. He spent a lot of time pointing out the many local and migrating birds as they flew over the hotel. He also took me out one morning to two sites with many many local and migrating birds. So, for bird enthusiasts, one could not ask for a better host and setting while in Colombo. Deepal organized a tour of Colombo via a Tuk Tuk ride, and that was quite an adventure. The whole staff is charming, friendly and helpful, and the food was superb and cooked to order. We highly recommend a stay here!
I stayed here last week with my girlfriend for four nights whilst visiting family locally. The manager is very kind and chatty, and the caretakers couldn't do enough for us whilst we were there. They were brilliant.
Our room was huge and clean, with patio doors leading out to a private, enclosed garden. The swimming pool was a welcome bonus in the afternoon heat too. We had breakfast at the hotel each morning - the food was cooked very nicely and they especially did very well to cater for my girlfriend, who is a vegetarian. There was a good amount of food - as much fresh fruit and freshly baked toast as we wanted, plus a cooked breakfast option that was delicious. One morning, the manager also gave us a plate of 'milk rice' to try, which is a local dish.
The staff even regularly organised taxis for us when we needed to go out, so that we didn't have to flag them down on the main road.
Overall, I honestly can't fault the place. The hotel is well looked after and the grounds / gardens are stunning. We didn't spend much time in the open sitting room next to the swimming pool, but it would've been a perfect place to relax with a drink if we had more time in the evenings.
I will certainly be back to stay next time I'm in the neighborhood!
