Wonderful get-away. The suite was the perfect accommodation for the three of us and even included a complimentary pussycat! The island and Joejo's delivered everything we hoped for--good weather, good water, good snorkeling, wifi, spacious porch for yoga and very nice staff. Carmen is a sweetheart and Dave is a very good fisherman. I returned home waterlogged, destressed, and happy. Thank you for all your help
We booked a fairly last-minute trip to Belize during the busiest travel time of the year (the holidays) and felt so lucky to have randomly found our way to Jo Joe's. The owner Luis was super helpful in advance about trying to fit us in despite the full status -- we happily agreed to move rooms during our stay just for the chance to be able to come at all. As a result, we had the chance to stay in the "honeymoon" cabin as well as one of the normal rooms in the main house. While the room was fine, we highly recommend the cabin! The cabins are lovely -- perched right on the water with amazing views of sunrise and the reef. The space is simple but comfortable and clean. The food at Jo Joe's (3 meals included in your stay) was delicious and we enjoyed the family-like atmosphere this small resort creates. It is family run (David the manager is great and his wife is an excellent cook! And we loved playing with his young grandsons who were visiting for the holiday) and since it is a small community it feels like family with the other guests as well. Jo Joe's offers free snorkel gear, kayaks, paddleboards and some games as well. Our only regret is that we weren't able to stay longer! We will definitely be back!
Joe Jo's, like every place on Tobacco Caye, is very low key. We happened to meet one of the managers (David) as we were getting on the water taxi out to the island- but we were primarily greeted and shown around by his grandson (9 year's old). Mind you- I'm not complaining. Unlike some of the places on the island, they have snorkling gear, kayaks and even some nice stand-up paddleboards... all included. The rooms- are nice, clean, simple. hot water only if the sun is shining (which is mostly wasn't for us). Joe Jo's is in the lee of the wind- so, it was a little calmer and quieter on that side of the island. The lagoon between the island and the reef is only a foot or three deep, so you cannot really swim out in front of your rooms. But it's a short walk down to Reef's end for some truly spectacular snorkeling. Our room (the honeymoon suite)- is the same size as the other cottages, but the back porch was over-water. While it doesn't seem like much of a big deal, it's semi-private between the mangrove bushes and if you watch carefully, there is an abundance of life to view just below the porch. Baby reef fish galore- sargent majors, trumpet fish, damsels, grunts, many other small varieties, crabs, a few small lobster, a big porcupine fish. And- at night, the glow worms lit up the shoal like fireflies. quite an experience.
The sandy area around Joe Jo's was well raked and cleaned, and Carmen provided us three meals a day in the dining room. Food was pretty good too.
This was a trip to remember! We were in a cabin on the lagoon, identified as the
"honeymoon suite". It was just the right size for the occasion. I got rid of my shoes almost immediately, still can't find them. The staff was the best!!! The meals were to die for! Ms. Carmen just could not miss with any of the food she, and her daughter prepared... We swam, splashed and drank our favorite cocktails. We had the pleasure of the owners arriving later the day we arrived, and it was like one big happy family gathering.. They were as much into having fun and enjoying the experience as much as us. I have so many great things to say about this visit.. I am ready to go back today if I had the opportunity. It was THE BEST TIME, EVER!
THis hotel is one of the most amazing places we have ever been to. This island is so tiny (you can swim or kayak around the whole island, walk from one end to the other in about 2 minutes...). The man who runs it and all of the staff are so great. They are friendly, kind and helpful. You walk out of your room and can immediately start snorkeling. They have glass bottom kayaks which are so fun, regular kayaks, snorkeling gear, paddle boards.... The food they make is so yummy! If you really want to get away from it all and go relax in a tropical paradise, this is the place to go!!
