I stayed for two nights at this place, and would unhesitatingly recommend it. Staff were courteous and efficient. Rooms were highly satisfactory, food was good, and service was swift and the portions were generous, and the coffee was fabulous - so much so that I made a special trip to the local factory and bought a bag of six packets for home consumption. The dining room has views of the beautiful tropical gardens, and it is a pleasure to sit there. I shall return!!

Compared to many hotels in Papua New Guinea the Pacific Gardens Hotel was a pleasant place to stay. The room was clean. The service was friendly and efficient and the foiod at the restaurant was very good. In fact I have no complaints at all. The hotel is set in a very pleasant garden atmosphere and there are no worries with any security issues. Like other reviewers I would say it is the best place to stay in Goroka and I would certainly come again and recommend it to anyone visiting.

A small babbling brook, cool mountain air and a myriad of colourful flowers welcomes you to PGH. A peaceful oasis to come home to at the end of a Goroka work day. Huge kingsize bed, a flat screen TV with a good assortment of programmes, a small dining table, a writing desk and a sizable bathroom with lovely hot water (booster included) make up your room. The little fridge worked a breeze to keep my fruits cold. Friendly staff. Would I stay here again? Definitely - but I would bring a powerboard on a 2m cord as charging outlets near the desk are scarce and I would stay on the top floor and have some exercise on the stairs to avoid listening to bigfoot pacing about in the room above at night. Do remember though that it is pricey - so that may be a factor in choosing this lovely hotel the next time.

After staying at the Melanesian Hotel in Lae, and the Highlander in Mt. Hagen, it was a lovely surprise to find a hotel did not feel like 3-star quality charging 5-star prices. We arrived at the Pacific Gardens hotel on a hot day for a 2-night stay. It felt like we walked into a lovely cool oasis surrounded by beautifully kept lush tropical gardens with a river running through it. We got a very friendly reception and although the first premier room we were assigned was fine, it was not one of the newly renovated ones. Having read trip advisor before hand, I asked about these, and our receptionist immediately showed me a couple of the newly renovated rooms on the 2nd floor (203 to 210 were premier rooms that were recently renovated). I choose room 209 (her recommendation also). The room had a very nice homely feel to it, had large sliding windows with screens overlooking the entry way and the lush tropical forest, was tastefully appointed and outfitted with a very comfortable bed and Sheridan sheets and towels, and complete with nicely concealed refrigerator and tea & coffee making supplies. One problem was no milk for tea, but that was quickly remedied by the friendly staff in the restaurant. Soap and shampoo were a day’s worth, but if you’re traveling around PNG I would recommend you bring your own anyway, so this was not a problem to us. From the 2nd floor the sound of the river all night long was actually quite soothing and relaxing. There was no a/c, but in the Eastern Highlands this is not necessary as the weather is pleasantly cool and comfortable in December. The dinner menu at the restaurant was a bit sparse – chicken and pork options were crossed off and our waitress explained that it was because of the time of the year, so our only option was steak. However the food quality and prices were on par if not better than better than their Coral Seas counterparts. Overall, our experience was very good, and I highly recommend this hotel.
