Given the price point and marketing gloss as The (in italics) location in UB, the Blue Sky falls short when you sum the parts.
Check-in had me waiting behind an angry guest who was complaining that the room she had been assigned was not yet ready; she really made a scene and got a room. Mine, it turns out, as I was then told my room wasn't ready and they would get another type for me and then move me the next day. Not a big deal.
The structure is nice; the tallest building in UB apes Dubai's Burj Al Arab in blue miniature. The interior of the halls and rooms are what you might call Uninspired Modular, though comfy. My room was stifling but opening the window only let in high-sulphur coal smoke.
Laundry was inexpensive and quick. Floor staff were cheery. English was widely spoken in UB as a whole.
I changed some RMB and got completely ripped off, as in, 30% ripped off. Don't play me like that.
At midnight on my first of three nights, I was phoned by the Front Desk to ask when I was checking out. I managed to wake-up enough to remind them that they confirmed three nights when I arrived. Again, at 9 am the next day, the Front Desk phoned and asked when I was checking out. This time, "Tomorrow." was a bit more curt.
I get the broken-wing argument of developing countries. Service staff might need more training and experience, currency exchange rates fluctuate wildly, products may see sporadic delivery, etc. If so, dial down the rhetoric (and price) until you are able to offer an objective 4- or 5-star experience.

While the whole glass window looks aesthetically attractive, the sun shine straight into the room. They can’t turn on the ac, I guess the hotel us using some centralized ac/heating system. My room is unexceptionally hot and stuffy. Receptionist sent a fan, open up the small window, and asked to wait until sunset to get the room temperature cold down. The corridor is well ventilated with ac, but the room is not.
I feels like I’m staying in a cheap guesthouse with good quality linen & bedding, but with rotatable fan spewing hot air.
You do the judgement. I would suggest not to stay here during the too humid/hot season.

+1
Situated right in the middle of Ullanbatar downtown, the hotel has excellent location to move around within city. The process of unprofessional attitude starts with reservation, when not giving a room for early check in at 5am even after confirming to charge extra when booking leaving me scrambling to stay in Ramada for 6 hours in the mrng.
After checking in the evening, was given room 1011 which does not have a clear view outside because of steel beams running crossway due to hotel structure. Maybe this particular floor has problem. No bell desk it seems, so carry your own luggage, dont expect someone will carry your stuff to room unless you ask them to call the person.
Very basic amenities in room and that too not replenished by housekeeping unless you call for it. Laundry given for washing was lost for the day and was delivered the next day (with shirt laundry charge missing on the printed sheet and then written by hand).
No stand to keep your bags, so keep them on floor or else use the sofa to keep it up.
The breakfast spread is all right compared to other five star, but the presentation and quality is like a 3 star hotel. Food once finished does not get replenished unless you ask for it. Very little choice for vegetarian's and hence if you have other place to eat, probably you will be better off not eating at all. Staff do not clearly understand English, so be clear when speaking to them and make sure they know what you want.
Bathrooms are clean.Shower area has no place to keep your soap or your toiletries. So keep it on floor whiile you shower. they have a bathtub but plug has been removed so that you dont take a bath in them ;-)
Also the bathroom is with Glass wall so if you have a guest in room and you need to use toilet, ask him to close his eyes as there are no blinds... i have seen glass bathroom walls before, but always they have a blind to close..If you are one of those couple who like to keep yourself personal in toilet, this is not the hotel for you ;-)
There is restricted usage of main entrance which is open to the Reception, so cars have to come from the back of the hotel and creates confusion when there is an event in the hotel.
Airconditioning is just adjusted to 25C max so if it is very cold outside and you want higher temperature, try and be cosy under the blankets. Airconditioning works, but does not help in increasing temp to your desired levels, thereby saving money for the hotel.(smart move)
They have put fire extinguisher (in my room) - everyday after the staff cleans my room they keep the fire extinguisher in the entrance of the room ??? Strange habit or just precaution for the guest not to forget where the extinguisher is lying?
TV has adequate channels and the only thing which is perfect in the room.
Overall the Hotel is just like a 3 star facility being advertised as a five star (Preffered Hotel). Better stay here only if you need to be central and close to government offices in centre of town or else you will be better off in other brands like Corporate (near by), Ramada and Kempenski which have all better service quality and understanding.
You are paying only for location.

I stayed in this hotel twice during my visit to UB. In my opinion, the hotel is great and both my rooms were on the top floors, which is a must when you stay at Blue Sky. Naturally, the view is amazing and when the sky is clear, you can see for miles. The bed is fantastic and the breakfast is good. Staff is also very friendly and helpful, also speak multiple languages which is a definite plus! It is very well located and right in the center of town. The only downside is that the aircon can not be turned off and is located right above the bed.. It is also quite loud. I will definitely stay again!

Making a dramatic architectural statement in the heart of UB, the Blue Sky Hotel provided a very central and comfortable base of operations for a portion of my business trip to Mongolia. My room was very comfortable - window that opened, good climate control, shower and bath, comfortable bed and convenient desk. Plenty of plugs for all the gizmos that needed to be charged. Wifi was easy to access and very stable. Views to the east from my room were interesting. There are several restaurants in the property and a nice gift shop. If you are traveling as a couple you will experience the hard, to me anyway, to understand big window between the bedroom and the bathroom. I bump into these in Asia and don't get the theory behind them, but there you are. Even though smoking is prohibited in the hotel you can still catch the odor in the hallways, and probably in some of the rooms, of people lighting up. When I return to UB I will stay here again.
