I used to walk by Romantik Hotel U Raka during my visits to Prague, and the year my father passed I decided to spend a little more for accommodations than I normally would pay and finally stay at what was once described to me as "typical architecture" in the Czech countryside (yes, staying at this hotel had become part of my bucket list). I absolutely love this hotel. I booked directly on the hotel website and there is a discount if you pay in cash. The surrounding neighborhood is serene and safe. Strolling at night along the cobblestone street with gas lamps lighting the way, you can wander among the historical buildings to Prague Castle and the breathtaking view overlooking the city. Take trams 22 or 23 from other parts of the city to the stops accessing U Raka (the shortest distance from the nearest tramstop does require walking a long stairway). The hotel feels secure and homey. A door connecting the courtyard to the street is unlocked by keys guests are given, and a security person is on staff overnight. My room had two floors with a bathroom, desk and chair on the 1st floor, and the bed and TV were on the second floor. I was able to write when at the spacious desk area, and I slept soundly upstairs - a few mornings even missing the included breakfast! I could have happily made this a second home! The history of the buildings, beautiful folk art, lovely garden, unique guest rooms, and friendly staff contributed to my wonderful stay. If you want to be in the middle of tourists and "the action," then stay elsewhere. If you are looking for a quiet, unique oasis nestled in a serene part of the city, tucked behind the Castle, Romantik Hotel U Raka is a hotel you should consider.
Small hotel, quiet, nicely refurbished. Family owned and run. It is located close to the Royal Palace and St. George's Basiclica on the heights in the western part of the city. It is just a nice 30 minutes walk down to Charles Bridge that will take you over to the old city.
The breakfast at the hotel is sufficient and good, the beds are very nice, everythin is clean, staff friendly, what more can you want?
This is the very first hotel I have found where you actually can book a room with a fireplace AND A WELL! I had a smaller room without those facilities, but was still very happy. Book well in advance, the hotel is small amd popular. If I ever get back to Prague I will definetly book a room here!
We stay in the “Romantik” hotels frequently which is how we found this small hotel off the beaten path. Michael, the manager, was amazing, starting with picking up our bags from another hotel since we could not book here for our first two nights. The experience went up from there. We stayed in their premier room, which we were amazed by. It was huge and comfortable and what we needed in between work weeks for resting. The hotel history is SO interesting and everywhere you look are small artistic vignettes to enjoy. It is absolutely quiet and up near Loreta and the monastery. If you want to be in the thick of things and have easy access to the main city, this is not your place. If you want excellent service in a small quiet location, I highly recommend U Raka. You can walk to the tram from here, but you will have to walk up a lot of stairs and the typical Praha cobblestones to get anywhere. Keep this in mind if your mobility is limited. It is also very tricky to find initially. Do not try to take public transport here with your bags in tow. You’ll need to schedule a pick up or take a taxi coming and going with baggage. Trust me on that! We will absolutely suggest this place to anyone who asks up for lodging ideas in Praha!
We stayed here four nights and it was wonderful. It's in a quiet area, off the beaten track which makes it a perfect choice. Close enough to walk to the Palace and and the other places to see in that area on top of the Hill. There is a trolley within a quick walk, it will take you throughout Prague. The staff was very helpful, answered questions and helped in any way they could. There were plenty of choices for breakfast. The room was quiet, large and very clean. The bed was very comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay.
During my visit to Prague in September 2017, I spent 5 nights at Romantik Hotel U Raka. As a solo traveler, I had some concern about the hotel being in a quite area. Michael (the manger) was able to address my concerns from our fist correspondence. He personally picked me up from the airport and also booked a visit INSIDE Strahov Monastery Library(must visit).
The hotel is a charming rustic cottage like, quiet and serene. The decent size room was cosy, the bathroom water pressure was good and the bed was very comfortable.
The hotel is within walking distance to Strahov Monastery, the Prague Castle and the tramp station is a nice 10 minutes walk. A delightful place to come back to after a long day of walking.
The breakfast buffet only serve cold breakfast, but the staff are more than willing to cook you a scramble or fried egg, omelet, sausages and etc..... On 2 occasions when I had to leave early to join a day tour, the staff was happy to come in early to prepare a hot breakfast for me.
Thank you Michael and your wonder staff especially Elizabeth and Lili for making my stay and visit to Prague memorable.
