This is our 3rd time to stay at this establishment. The original stay was amazing. The 2nd time I believe was in the middle of a ownership d change and it was not a very good stay at all.
This was our 3rd and probably final stay as the whole vibe had changed. It was really becoming run down. There was little activity at all going on. We arrived slightly after the 3pm checkin time and the reception doorc was locked.... we were told that the door is always locked. Be advised that if you book your room in their website.. don't expect an upgrade even if there are rooms available... the previous owners upgraded to the closest value run available.. the new management will not up grade unless the room difference is only a few dollars difference.

On the plus side.. most of the other guests are so very kind and a pleasure to meet and chat with.

Tim/Flo was a bit testy at breakfast... challenging guests about wearing the daily guest paper bracelets at breakfast even though anyone in island can eat at the restaurant fur breakfast. Guest or not.

Staff was not warm and welcoming at all.

Location is a huge plus.

Money was stolen from my wife wallet which was in our luggage. We reported and nothing was done. They kept saying it's under investigation but haven't heard from them and it's been 1 weeks. Also on our last day we were enjoying the ocean breeze from our balcony only to see the people fornicating on the ocean view deck. We also reported it and turns out it was an ex employee who just decided "hangout" .also kids were on the property and happened during the day 1 pm ish... We were told they would comp us a night, but couldn't return it to my card and would send a check ...I emailed Krystal to follow and no response . My wife and I both have sent emails..

We stayed at The Fred for 7 nights in July. We booked based upon reviews and we left with a glass-half-empty, glass-half-full feeling. We booked directly via phone reservation. This was a good experience. We elected for a queen bed, and shared balcony based upon price. We also arranged a shuttle from the airport based upon the ammenitites on their website. Upon arrival at the airport, no one was there to transfer us. The taxi arrived and it was a bit dirty. Eventually we were picked up at the airport and transferred to The Fred. Check in was smooth and the front desk attendant was kind and informative. She took us to our room, which was located in the main building of the hotel. The room was nice and clean, but there was no sink in the bathroom. It was built into the dresser of the bedroom. The balcony was shared at the end of the hall and included a view of the parking lot/dumpster and dead plants. No thank you. We were moved to another room upon our request and the new room was nice! We did pay an extra fee for the new room, which was fine. But, the resort fee increased from $160.80 to $220.80. Okay, but still not sure what this includes? We used the pool and hot tub, which seem standard. Beach chairs were not readily available and we saw no options for water sports (snorkeling, kayaking, etc.)

After we moved to a larger room, the safe in our room did not work and we elected to re-use towels for much of our stay. We did have our room cleaned one day and towels were not refreshed and we were nearly out of TP. We had to go to the front desk to get towels and TP. Not a huge deal, but annoying. We also had roaches in our room and one night it rained heavily and water rushed through our windows, which were not sealed.

We did dine at The Fred multiple times and the food was great! On the downside, we did pay $8 for 2 lemonades, which were essentially water with lemon. Otherwise, the food was good and the servers were kind. The bar service was good and Kyle was a star.

A few other points to note are the gentleman cleaning around the pool. He was kind and worked hard each day. Also, the security guard present in the evening was very nice.

Upon review of our invoice, we were charged $80 for airport transfers we only used once, so it should have been $40. We were told at checkout we would be credited. Still waiting... Also a $3.00 mini bar charge, which we definitely didn't use. Still waiting on a refund after multiple attempts.

In summary, the views couldn't be better, the food was tasty, the bar service was good, but the overcharges with lack of response left a bad feeling.

My fiancée and I stayed at The Fred for a long weekend over Memorial Day and loved our time there! The Fred is a beautiful beachfront property with a sizable pool, hot tub, and bar. The property is kept very clean and employees are constantly maintaining the plants, pool area, chairs, and beachfront. The hotel is also gated and has security, which is comforting as the area around the hotel is not very populated at night. The hotel staff is attentive, accommodating, and friendly and routinely checked in with us throughout our stay. Our room was large, clean, and very comfortable with AC - we also enjoyed sitting on the balcony overlooking the ocean right outside our door.

The Fred is great if you are looking to spend your day relaxing while looking at the beautiful scenery and there are a few bars and restaurants within walking distance as well - we enjoyed walking to Beach Side Cafe, 69 and Polly's for breakfast. The hotel is also a short walk to a well-maintained beachfront path and huge pier which is really nice as there is not much room to walk along the beach in front of the hotel as it's very rocky.

Although Frederiksted is technically a "town," it is a very quiet part of the island though there are a few restaurants and bars within walking distance but it is very quiet at night and does not have nearly as much nightlife or shops that are found in Christiansted. If you're primarily looking for a relaxing vacation, lounging by the pool or beach, you will love The Fred. If you are looking to explore a bit more, I definitely recommend renting a car (we did) as taxis are not readily available - The Fred also has free parking for hotel guests right outside the hotel!

Overall we loved our time at The Fred and would absolutely stay again!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Fred and would recommend this hotel for couples. During our stay we had reserved the James room, which we appreciated the extra space. The balcony does face the parking lot with a view of the ocean, which was not favorable but we had no issues with disturbances. The bar staff is entertaining and knowledgeable, especially if you engage with them to establish a relationship. This is what made our stay memorable.
