The lodge location at the foot of Kilimanjaro mountain is breathtaking! In the middle of the jungle at the riverside. Rooms are comfortable, clean, reservation, room and restaurant service are good, meals, coffee and drinks are good. Nice, cosy, smallscale atmosphere you will enjoy. Good selection of coffee, beers, wines and whisky's (!) are waiting for you. African/German hospitality seems to work perfectly. We will be back!

Think about the best hotel view you’ve ever seen. Now prepare yourself for your new favorite one! Our perception of a hotel with a view went through a 360 transformation after our stay at Kaliwa Lodge, Machame.
The biggest highlight is probably their amazing wooden deck, opening up up the most spectacular view of Kilimanjaro, allowing to observe directly it’s highest peak Kibo, with its white glaciers and rainforest all for you to enjoy. Alongside your private viewpoint experience, Kaliwa’s team would happily serve your meal on the terrace, or some freshly brewed Tanzanian coffee to sip on, whilst you are soaking up the panorama.
The manager Thomas and staff, majority of which are locals, go above and beyond to make sure everyone's comfortable and enjoying their stay, and happy to provide more info about the area and helpful trips to the guests. There's a really nice community feel at Kaliwa, which we loved so much.
Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the busy Moshi Town, we found that is the perfect choice for both travelers interested in Kili expeditions, as well as any safari goers, because of its key location, and the zen atmosphere, providing the much needed comfort in between your adventures.
Probably not your typical Tanzanian lodge, Kaliwa features very modern structure and minimalist style, with its rooms design being soften and complemented with local art touches and fresh colors incorporated in the rooms and interior decoration. Overall quite unique concept, with the german architectural genius and innovative thinking to be speaking aloud.
The breakfast is included in your room rate, lunch is a la carte, and the dinner menu is different each day of the week, with the meals depending on season’s local produce, however prepared and served to match European standards and quality.
The property is situated in Machame, a small village rich in coffee and banana plantations, which allowed us to equally enjoy the scenic landscape and natural beauty, but also experience some a cultural walk and a short trek around the Weru Weru River.

Highly recommend this property,no matter how long or short your stay is!

Thank you so much Thomas and team for the amazing time!

Sadly, due to a flight cancellation we weren't able to stay here for as long as we had planned. It's a beautiful lodge tucked away in the wilderness. The viewing platform is perfect for those who just want see the mountain and not climb it. We loved the German designed buildings and the amazing homemade muesli at breakfast. It was the best muesli we had on our trip and we want the recipe!

The bathrooms were really nice and the beds were comfortable. The only thing missing were mosquito nets. Neither room had them. To be fair it's well screened, but I would have preferred to have some nets.

Stayed there when I arrived in Kilimanjaro. Basic room with good food. Loved the veg dinner prepared for me. Property is so green and has a beautiful terrace with a view to Kili and a nice river / valley view. Just beautiful. Staffs were very nice and kind and helpful. Rooms were very basic though. Except that loved the place!

Hi Roger, here are our answers: 1. The price in November is the same as all year 2015 and 2016 - per person 85 USD including breakfast. 2. We don't have air condition. We are of an altitude of 1300 meters, so it is not so hot. 3. Why not? That's the price, because privat transfer is expensive in Tanzania. It is 38 kilometers (23,61 miles). 4. We have a menu for lunch - and it looks good. You can get sandwich, samosa, chips majay, pasta, vegetable curry, meatballs, ice cream and fruit salad, for example. For Breakfast we serve coffee and tea, juice, homemade bread, homemade passion fruit jam, honey, cheese, butter, cereals, fruits, vegetables. For dinner we offer a 3-course set menu that changes every day. Kind regards, Thomas General Manager
