The room was nice bed was comfy, food in the restaurant was good the hotel mgr. was very good. This is just a very comfortable place with great whale watching an iceberg watching. there is a whale bell located outside so ring it and the people show up to watch. I was here for nature not hotels and the nature part lived up to full expectation and the hotel was very nice. I would go back.
We stayed at the Hotel Diskobay for two nights during our Greenland adventure. The building seems very new. It sits in a beautiful spot overlooking the water--great for whale watching. They even have a bell on the outside deck to ring and alert others if you spot one!
We were picked up from the airport by a car the hotel uses. They made three trips to transport our group of nine with luggage to the hotel.
Our room was a beautifully spacious corner room with one window facing the oil tanks and one facing the water. The one facing the water did not have a shade, so full sun all 24 hours of the summer day. The free wifi works well in the lobby area but was weak in the room.
Dinner was quite good, but the service was so slow that we ended up leaving before dessert, as it had been over two hours and we were quite tired from the day. Breakfast was very limited: bread, cheese, ham, eggs and cereal. The coffee was good.
We were able to do laundry for only 60 DKK! A great price and much needed--thank you! We also appreciated that they let our group use a room to shower after we had checked out but then did hiking before our next transfer. Very considerate of them!
Hotel Diskobay is a good option while you are in Qasigiannguit.
This is one of the only hotels in Qasigiannguit so you don't have a choice of where to stay. I enjoyed my time there. The room is fine and the location is great for walking around town and seeing some icebergs. It reminded me of my dorm room but with a bathroom.
There is some really aggressive hiking around the town and mountain climbing. Go in June - early August for that. There are also a lot of sled dogs around the town and a fabulous museum run by the most lovely and passionate curators.
Like I've said in my other GL reviews, it is all about expectations. Qas is not on the typical tourist map. I only visited here with an "off the beaten path" tour. You can't expect a western 4 star establishment out here. It is great for what it is though.
The Hotel Disko Bay is small and simple, but comfortable and well appointed. The rooms are of a reasonable size with some space to unpack and store stuff, and they have en-suite bathrooms. However the beds are narrow. The dining room does excellent breakfast and lunch buffets, and a dish of the day in the evening, all of which were excellent. You have to pre-book meals. They also provided early dinner when we and another party were leaving on the ferry just when we would normally have liked to eat. There's complimentary tea and coffee all day. The views are very fine, often including passing icebergs and pods of whales.
The hotel has a perfect position for a wonderful view on icebergs and the bay, and so do most of the rooms. Everything is basic, from the room til the 'lounge' til the reception, when I was there in July 2017 handeled by rather nervous not so friendly person, but he did what he had to do. I was able to have diner (there are no other places to eat) and that was just lovely!
Make sure you will be picked up by the boat to bring you to the hotel. It is far! And be sure to protect yourself from the mosquitos. Even though it is impossible to open a window in your room.
