We visited Hy's for my husband's birthday dinner, and were very impressed. The restaurant has a posh atmosphere without being stuffy, and the staff made us feel like royalty. Ask for a spot in the library room, order a round of drinks, and prepare to feel posh and pampered!

Koko Crater Botanical Garden sparked a new shared passion for my husband and I. We ended up visiting another botanical garden while in Hawaii, and we now build at least one into every trip we take. It's absolutely beautiful, and enough off the beaten path that you can find some real rustic solitude with your partner. It's also free, which is always a plus.

My husband and I's shared love of history is what brought us together, so this museum (and all of Pearl Harbor) was a great way to indulge that particular passion. Informative and very realistic dioramas really bring the displays to life, making this a great stop for childless couples as well as those traveling with their families.

We got a taste of local life at the Harbor Pub and Pizza. The staff was friendly and accommodating on both the breakfast and the dinner shifts, and the food was very good and reasonable priced. This is a great spot to hit if you want to save money on some meals in order to really splurge on others.

The Missouri is great fun for history lovers of all ages. This would be a great attraction to do with kids who are old enough to go 'whoa!' at all the awesome facts that are shared in the brief walk-around orientation. One of the best things about this attraction is that you can pretty much choose how much time you spend there. You could easily leave after the orientation and still feel like you'd learned a lot and seen some pretty cool stuff, or you could be total nerds and walk through every open hallway and room as my husband and I did. Either way, you're in for a treat.

As history lovers, my husband and I were very excited to visit Pearl Harbor. The only disappointment we suffered was that our Arizona tour was cancelled due to high wind. Make sure to visit the Bowfin submarine, which is really fascinating. We just spent a few minutes the other day marveling once again at our memories of those cramped spaces...

    Tips
    • Wear solid and closed-toed shoes for visiting the Bowfin. There are ladders you have to climb and many, many opportunities to stub your toes.
    • Take the audio guide for the submarine. There isn't room for many signboards inside, so the info and personal accounts on the guide are invaluable.

The Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki is a great choice for anyone who wants to be close to Waikiki but not pay an arm and a leg for an ocean view. My husband and I enjoyed the fact that we could easily walk to both Waikiki proper and the Ala Moana Center. The gorgeous luxury automobiles rolling through the valet stand didn't hurt the feelings of this pair of car buffs, either.
