Lives in Ocho Rios, Jamaica
Since Jun 2013
Having always had the urge to live a life less ordinary somewhere hot and exotic I was swayed by the warm people, colourful lifestyle, verdant scenery and edgy vibes in Jamaica. Originally from London I first travelled to Jamaica in 2006 and continued to visit over the coming years until I finally took the plunge and fulfilled my goal by moving here in 2012. I enjoy living in Jamaica and sharing my experiences and advice with others. My musings about life in Jamaica can be found on my blog 'Sweet Jamaica (.co.uk)' and in other commissioned pieces across the internet.

At Rockland's Bird Sanctuary, you can explore beautiful gardens and get up close with the birds and butterflies. The guides will point out herbal remedies, and you can even hand feed the hummingbirds with sugar water nectar.
There are several ziplines offered across Jamaica, but at 1,600 feet, this one offers the longest aerial adventure in the Caribbean. With five ziplines, a Jungle Bridge, and a nature trail, Jamaica Zipline Adventure Tours allows you to fully explore and take in the Jamaican jungle.
The Montego Bay Marine Park is a protected area of the coastline filled with mangroves and reefs. You can do some fabulous snorkeling and diving here, or stay above the waterline on a kayak. Either way, this nature reserve right in the middle of town is great fun.
The Half Moon Equestrian Center is carefully run with healthy, well cared for horses and happy, safety-conscious guides. There are many different offerings for on the land and in the water rides.
Half Moon Golf, Tennis & Beach Club offers the chance to get in on the high life. Since the beautiful, immaculate course is easily walkable and not as challenging as some of the others in the area, it's a good choice for novices — or rusty players — and the caddies here are excellent.
Covering three different parishes, Cockpit Country is named for the fissures that rainwater has made in the area's limestone (which does not retain water) landscape. The area is home to endemic flora and fauna and incredibly topography, including conical hills, lush valleys, beautiful rivers, streams, and pools, and fascinating caves. There are a variety of ways to explore Cockpit Country, from thrills like spelunking to calmer tours that dive into the history of the area. Find the outfitter that provides the best experience for your needs and tastes.
From ATV off-roading and Jeep safaris to kayaking and jungle river tubing, Jamaica offers a little bit of everything, and there are a variety of tour companies that will help you have the experience of your dreams.
Whether you set sail on a glass-bottom boat, dive in for scuba or snorkeling, or soar through the air parasailing, getting out on the water is simply a must in Jamaica. There are a variety of tour companies that offer a full range of water-based activities — everything from silly banana boats and chic sailboats — so decide how you want to see the sea and then choose the trip that's right for you.
A fabulous combination of horticulture and art, Ahhh...Ras Natango Gallery and Garden will amaze and enthrall you with their beauty. You can take an art class, wander through the gardens, or simply sit back and enjoy some peace and quiet, along with views right over Montego Bay.
Stretching out across 40 acres, Animal Farm maintains forest reserves and is dedicated to breeding and rearing more than 70 varieties of birds. Operating from the motto 'Don't just live, live green,' the eco-farm employs solar power, compost, and a number of other innovative and eco-friendly practices to operate its facilities. It's a firm favorite with kids, thanks to its many animals (pigs, sheep, rabbits, guinea pigs, and more) that little ones can see and pet, plus birds to hand feed, and even a donkey named Boxer who gives rides around.
Situated right in the middle of the hip strip, this beach club caters to locals and tourists alike. As it is a private beach, you can just sit back and enjoy the beachfront, without being approached by vendors.
If you want to partake in a relaxing outdoor activity, take a bamboo raft ride down the Martha Brae River. With its calm waters and jungle scenery, and fun legend, this river is a relaxing, romantic spot.
