It served as a holy church for 909 years where 14 Eastern Roman emperors were crowned, it became a mosque in 1453 so it served as a mosque for 404 years and finally it was turned into a museum in 1935. It is located in Eminonu district just opposite of Spice Market entrance as part of New Mosque-Yeni cami complex. It used to be the resting place for Ottoman sultans & members of the dynasty before & after mosques and long Ramadan nights. It has a long entrance hall, two large saloons and a big balcony.

It is one of the big imperial mosques which was built by Ottoman dynasty. It is highly recommeded to visit not only to see mosque architecture but also the shrines & unique Janissary squads gravestones in front & back courtyards.

Mihrimah Sultam Mosque is one of the beautiful mosques located in asian side of Istanbul with endengared gravestones & sarcophagus. It has also two shrines in the courtyard. A beautiful Ottoman fountain is situated in front of the mosque.
