What you could do for a couple of days in Valencia

  • Explore locations featured in this Trip List: Valencia
  • Category: Perfect weekend
  • Traveler type: Sightseeing
  • Appeals to: Couples/romantics, Honeymooners, Singles, Families with teenagers, Seniors, Students, Budget travelers, Tourists
  • Seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall
  • 1. Central Market (Mercado Central)
Central Market (Mercado Central), Valencia, Province of Valencia

Fantastic undercover food market right in the centre of Valencia - over 900 stalls of yummy (and maybe not so yummy) stuff to buy

  • 2. Cathedral

Beautiful building with what they claim is the Holy Grail

  • 3. Plaza Redonda

Lovely little circular plaza, with a fountain in the middle and haberdasher's shops all round the inner circle, and a bird market on Sundays

  • 4. Agua de Valencia

You have to try a jugful of Valencia's own cocktail - fresh orange juice (obviously), Cava and possibly vodka or brandy or whatever the barman's own recipe demands! Tastes refreshing & harmless but packs a powerful punch!

  • 5. Oceanografic
    Oceanografic, Valencia, Province of Valencia

Visit the Oceanografic for a few hours - allegedly the largest aquarium in Europe. Lots of fish, whales, walruses and a great dolphin show.

  • 6. City of the Arts and Sciences (Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias)
City of the Arts and Sciences, Valencia, Province of Valencia

These futuristic buildings are definitely worth seeing (even if you don't go in). Just take the picnic you bought at the market, sit on the long tiled bench and go "wow".

  • 7. La Lonja de la Seda
La Lonja de la Seda, Valencia, Province of Valencia

Take the time to pop into this beautiful building just opposite the Central Market, and see if you can spot the naughty carvings! And all the other beautiful architectural details, of course.

  • 8. Open Top Bus Tour

This is a good way to spend an hour and a half, being touristy and yet not actually having to walk! The tour takes you all round the historic centre & also goes out as far as the Oceanografic & the City of Arts and Sciences. Like all opem top bus tours, there are several places you can hop on or off, & the ticket is valid for 24 hours.

  • 9. Walk the Historic Centre

Get your comfy shoes on & just cruise around the little streets of the historic centre. In the daytime you'll find lots of quirky specialist shops, tempting bakeries and cafes, and at night there are some excellent bars & clubs. Don't forget that in Spain, dinner isn't eaten until quite late (9.30 pm seemed to be early!) and the night life goes on til morning.

  • 10. Climb the Tower of Serrans

Just north of the Plaza del Virgen, climb to the top of the Tower of Serrans for a roof top view of Valencia, and the hills beyond.
