  • 1. Connemara Smokehouse - Ballyconneely, Co. Galway, Connemara
    http://www.smokehouse.ie

Connemara Smokehouse is a small family-run business perched on the water's edge at Bunowen Pier in the small village of Aillebrack, just 20 minutes drive from Clifden town. Traditional methods and very high quality seafood are our company's priority. They specialise in Wild and Organic Salmon, Smoked and Marinated. One of their other specialities is their unique Smoked Irish Tuna (well worth a try).
They are one of Rick Stein's Super Heroes, and supply him with their exclusive speciality Irish Smoked Tuna. They also attend the BBC Good Food Show as one of his Food Heroes where they have won "Favourite Speciality Producer Award" as voted by visitors to the BBC Good Food Show. They have won various other awards such as Bridgestone Guide Awards, Best new Seafood Product in Ireland and Great Taste Awards.

In the Smokehouse Tour, you will watch Graham/Nicholas fillet and traditionally prepare the salmon, then hand-slice and pack the finished product. Also, you will learn about the various smoking methods and enjoy a tasting of their fantastic Smoked Salmon. I am sure you will then want to buy some to take home, eat some while you are here on holiday, or send to friends and family as a gift. It is educational, fun and delicious. This is a must to do while in Clifden connemara

  • 2. Steam Coffee House - Station House Courtyard, clifden, Connemara
    http://www.clifdenstationhouse.com/menu.asp?menu=101

Steam Coffee House has organically grown out of the award winning 'High Moors' restaurant. The menu features super soups, wraps, bruschettas, terrific coffees and delicious desserts. A fantastic place for lunch.

  • 3. G's formally known as Spice Club - clifden connemara
    http://www.ireland-guide.com/establishment/gs_restaurant_formerly_the...

A small reception area leads to a long restaurant with well spaced tables and maroon, black and cream painted walls decorated with mirrors and oriental print; while not very atmospheric, a window at one end overlooks the estuary - and, once your food arrives, it will take centre stage, notably due to excellent seafood cooking: lovely appetisers of deepfried mini Thai fish cakes, perhaps, or tasty crab lasagne, and main courses like crisp pan-fried sea bass on a tangy base of ratatouille, garlic, spinach and a little grain mustard butter sauce, or scallops seared to perfection with a butter sauce flavoured with smoked bacon. This place is a must the food is just to die for. We are regualrs when in the area.
