0.0 of 5 stars based on 0 votes

Our trip combines everything you could need for a honeymoon - beaches, fine dining, sights, scenery and most importantly amazing experiences to be shared with the person you've just committed to spend the rest of your life with!

  • 1. Warner Bros. Studios VIP Tours
Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood, Burbank, California

The perfect combination of real life movie and TV making facts with the opportunity to see the sets and props of some of your favourite shows - including the inconic Friends Central Perk set!

  • 2. Universal Studios Hollywood
Universal Studios Hollywood, Los Angeles, California

Fun for all ages. A theme park where rides have the Hollywood touch, where production and effects surpass typical theme park thrills. The focus here is on rides however there is the studio trolley tour for those that want to know a little more about the movies - and it comes complete with a few surprises!

  • 3. IRIS by Cirque du Soleil
IRIS by Cirque du Soleil, Los Angeles, California

If you can get tickets when in LA and you love all things Hollywood then this is a great night out. Sitting in the Kodak theater was amazing and the show was great too - a real combination of typical Cirque performances but with a massive emphasis on old school Hollywood and movie making. A brilliant memory to add to the honeymoon stories!

  • 4. Santa Monica Pier
Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica, California

Live the Californian dream right on the beach! Ride the ferris wheel and the beautiful old merry go round, stop for a bite to eat looking out at the beach, or take a walk down to Venice to see the canals and famous Muscle Beach. It felt like we'd walked onto the set of Baywatch and made for a great break from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles.

  • 5. Pacific Coast Highway - Route 1
Pacific Coast Highway - Route 1, California, United States

For the beast in beaches and coastal views rent a car and get out onto the Pacific Coast. Watch sea lions in their natural habitat, go for a swim out at Malibu, or stop off at one of the many towns and attractions along the way like the beautiful seaside town of Carmel, the Monterrey aquarium or Hearst Castle.

  • 6. BEST WESTERN PLUS Pepper Tree Inn
BEST WESTERN PLUS Pepper Tree Inn, Santa Barbara, California

A perfect stop off when touring California. Although a car is essential for seeing the sites that Santa Barbara has to offer the hotel goes out of it's way to make sure you have a great stay. With a pool to relax in and beautiful views of the mountains we wished we had stayed longer. After a busy and fast paced weekend in LA Santa Barbara and the Best Western Peppertree Inn offer just what we needed. Alternatively it's a good place to chill out before heading into LA if you're driving the other way!

  • 7. Paula's Pancake House
    Paula's Pancake House, Solvang, California

If you get the chance stop off in Solvang for brunch. Paula's does the best pancakes, French toast and breakfast. Whilst in Solvang have a look round and lose yourself in the kitsch Danish vibe. We even stopped off for a few nights to explore the local Vineyards and do some wine tasting - a fantastic honeymoon treat.

  • 8. Grapeline Wine Tours Santa Barbara
Grapeline Wine Tours Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara, California

The Santa Ynez valley is home to some amazing vineyards with breathtaking views. Not quite as commercialized as Napa, we found it to be one of the highlights of our honeymoon trip. Grapeline offer tours to the best vineyards in the area and tailor where to stop to the mood and size of the group. If you're planning on staying in the area for more than a day or two do this first as the tour guides can recommend plenty of other things to do including places to eat and other vineyards to visit. Our tour with Grapeline was one of the highlights of our trip and gave us a real taste for wine tasting but so far none of the trips we've been on have matched up to this!

  • 9. The Hitching Post II
The Hitching Post II, Buellton, California

I can't think of any other restaurant that serves a better steak. With local wines to choose, everything from the grilled artichoke appetizers to the baked cheesecake dessert were sublime. This was my favourite restaurant when living in California and my opinion hasn't changed 10 years later. The Hitching Post combines amazing food in a relaxed and informal atmosphere - its not pretentious in the slightest considering how amazing the food is! Make this a part of your honeymoon road trip you'll be talking about to all your friends when you get home.

  • 10. Madonna Inn
Madonna Inn, San Luis Obispo, San Luis Obispo County

Quirky luxury at its best! This place has to be seen to be believed and photos really don't do it justice. Your honeymoon wouldn't be complete without a stop off here, whether to stay the night of even just for a meal. Each room is individually decorated - a rock room is a must if your budget can stretch to it (or if there is even one available). The pink restaurant is worth the cost of the food just to experience ti - and don't forget to sample some of the pink champagne cake. With a heated outdoor pool and hot tub there is no need to leave the Madonna inn until it's time to check out. And don't forget to stop off in the gift shop and buy one of the goblets they serve your water in at the restaurant!

  • 11. IHOP
IHOP, San Luis Obispo, San Luis Obispo County

If you're not from the US then IHOP is a must! We stopped off throughout our road trip at different locations for some great pancakes and breakfasts. It's the typical American diner experience and great value for money leaving extra cash to splurge on other things!

  • 12. Hearst Castle
Hearst Castle, San Simeon, San Luis Obispo County

History and opulence in a stunning location. Take a half day out of driving highway 1 to learn some Californian history.

  • 13. Yosemite National Park
    Yosemite National Park, California

The scenery doesn't get more spectacular than this. Work off some of that delicious food you've eaten so far with a few hikes through Yosemite. There are trails suitable for all abilities.

  • 14. Delta King
    Delta King, Sacramento, California

In the heart of Old Sacramento the Delta King sits peacefully on the river. A fun place to spend the night - although the rooms are a bit tight (or should I say cabins). The bar/restaurant has beautiful views and makes a perfect place for a glass of wine and a game of cards. If you're stopping off in Sacramento for a night or you've always wanted to sleep on a boat then this is the hotel for you!

  • 15. River Terrace Inn
River Terrace Inn, A Noble House Hotel, Napa, Napa Valley

Napa is a great place to stop for wine and picnic lovers. The River Terrace Inn offers beautiful rooms only a short walk from downtown Napa. Oxbow market is a 5 minute walk away so you can stock up on all your picnic supplies or even buy something to eat on your balcony (make sure you request/book a balcony room).

  • 16. Napa Valley Wine Train

Lunch or dinner, this is a restaurant with a twist. Although a little pricey the Napa Wine train is a fun experience, especially for a special occasion. If you get a chance whilst in Napa its worth a meal!

  • 17. San Francisco
    San Francisco, California

An excellent start or end point for a trip to California. the city offers a wealth of attractions and although very hilly a car is not needed as the public transport system is easy and affordable to use. San Francisco has a relaxed vibe and is a huge contrast to other California cities. Ride the cable cards, do some shopping, eat some clam chowder in a sour dough roll at pier 39 or use it as a base to explore other areas of California such as Napa or Muir Woods (giant redwood trees). Oh and don't forget to catch a glimpse of the Golden Gate bridge!

  • 18. Hotel Monaco San Francisco - a Kimpton Hotel
The Marker San Francisco, San Francisco, California

Perfect base for exploring San Francisco. Located a few blocks from Union Square everything is easy to get to. The staff made us feel extra special as it was our honeymoon with a complimentary bottle of a wine of our choice and a beautiful fruit platter. Each afternoon complimentary wine and shoulder massages are offered which are just some of the little extras this hotel offers its guests.

  • 19. Alcatraz
    Alcatraz, San Francisco, California

A trip to San Francisco wouldn't be complete without a visit to the rock. Although the tour groups are large you can still get to grips with what it was like being banged up, and the stories of infamous inmates line Al Capone are fascinating. There is more to the island though than just an ex prison and the tour guides do a great job of bringing it all to life.
