A day visit to Yosemite Valley in December - March can be quietly spectacular ... all the beauty with fewer people.

  • 1. What to see as you drive into the Valley
    Yosemite National Park, California

As you head toward Yosemite Valley, be sure to make a stop at Tunnel View.

  • 2. Bridalveil Fall
Bridalveil Falls, Yosemite National Park, California

In winter, the wispy Bridalveil Waterfall will have that light delicate flow. Be careful on the icy path up to the base of the waterfall.

  • 3. Shuttle Bus to all the best places

Park your car at the General Parking and hop on the shuttle bus. This is the easiest way to get around Yosemite Valley.
Just one route is open in winter, but the bus will get you everywhere. Consider walking around flat Happy Isles, walking up the paved/closed road to Mirror Lake/Meadow for an upclose view of Half Dome, or walking up the wheelchair accessible trail to Lower Yosemite Fall.

  • 4. Ice Skating in Curry Village

Rent skates & pay a fee to enjoy skating in the cool winter air. Or just stop by to watch the skaters and enjoy the warm fire.

  • 5. Yosemite Guide newspaper ideas ... ranger led walk perhaps?

Read the newspaper for current offerings. Maybe you'd like to join a group for a ranger walk or to take a photography class.

  • 6. Sit by a fire or just wander in the Ahwahnee Hotel

The historic Ahwahnee Hotel has three large fireplaces. Sit by the fire with a good book or just warm up in the midst of your day visit.
Remember that there is an outdoor fire by the Curry Village Ice Rink as well.
