Found Switzeralnd to be as advertized - expensive - plan on spending...
arrived at airport in Zurich and sorted out some key logistics.
Rail - Swiss Card or half price recommended - SBB has travel agent behind ticket office who can provide advice. Would do this in person.
Mobile - recommend Orange - get the SIM card at Post Office. There is an Orange store that will help getting it work (you will likely need this)

If we didn't care for hotel, restaurant, etc. we just left it off the list
excellent location for walking along the lake or visting the old town and museums. Good family room, clean, etc As with everything in CH - expensive.
Ask for renovated rooms. seem to be the best value - we started in the Belvedere and moved to Hotel Eiger.
arrived in Interlakken and forward bags to Grindelwald. Took train to "top of europe" and returned to the Eiger station. Hiked the Eiger trail to Alpiglen then arrived in by last train to Grindelwald. watched "the beckoning silence" by Joe Simpson on YouTube that evening.
hired 2 tandem e-bikes and did the Lauterbrunnen loop with frank as our guide. While priced high at 500 ChF it was a private trip and they worked hard to make it a great day.
Took the First gondola and hike to the mountain top Faulhorn Hotel (est. 1830) for lunch. Road the Trotti Bikes down on the return. Hike recommended as Top 10 on the Globe by Nat'L Geo
great restaurant with more variety - nice deck with excelent views. Went 2x.
4 nites and 3 days in apartment. Did a trip over to Zermatt and was happy to avoid the tourist scene. Quick look at the Matterhorn but the weather trashed out our hike.
Could have used Day 5 up better...
The Alpine Music Festival was on in SF so for Friday night we watched the joined the locals at the town hall for a party
follows the Walser trail. At and above treeline. Great views. Good restaurant on the trail towards the end. 5 hour hike altogether include godola ride to Gspon.
On Swiss hiking app or MySwitzeraland.com website
Went to Sass Grund for the Monster Trotti - 11 km downhill.
Did the canyon via ferratta with a guide from the Sass-Fee guides (Peter). This was great - our sons highlite. If you want to do the one on the Mountain make sure the gondola is operating in advance.
train to Jazz festival. Took in the free afternoon show in the park
App is available for the festival
after day in Montreux the calmness was aprreciated. Good hotel although the family rooms are in the attic. Would go with two rooms. Hotel is just outside the village and walkable from the train station. Nice folks running it.
local ride where the road around the lake is closed to cars and there is lots of food and festivities. Good family event. need to book bikes through SBB well in advance as there was probably 5000 riders.
we returned to Montreux where we wandered town again then rented a car. we went to the pubic pool at the next town east called Villenuve. Right on Lac le Man and they rent SUP there. cool way to see the castle and a great spot to hand out and swim.
arrived in Chamonix after SUP via St Bernard pass. macchiato stop in Aosta, IT
good hotel with helpful staff. stay away from street side family room as bars noisy and garbage trucks early.
rode the midi to the top and returned to mid station - hiked across to the train at mer de glass. good hike. 1 hour wait for the midi though. would go early for better weather and shorter lines
book store next to hotel has good trail guide/map for sale in english
good hike on opposite side of valley with great views of Mt Blanc, etc.
Buy 2 day gondola pass
Sport climbing world cup was on in town
liked this italian restaurnant - might need reservations
spent 2 days following the TdF. One day on course and one day at the finish. another trip highlite. check the TdF website for things to do near the start/finish - wine tours, etc. we spent a day in Annecy -
cool stop for a tour esp after Higgs Boson particle discovery
spent last night at NH Hotel - pretty pricey for average digs
went to Nyon for dinner and walked along the lake.
