Just some tips for Cozumel from a traveler that loves the island!

  • 1. Scuba Mau Cozumel
    Opal's Dream, Cozumel

Love diving with Scuba Mau...small fast boats and diving all the best sites. Great service and safety first. Scuba Mau has undergone some changes recently with some of the employees opening Opal's Dream and the original owner Mau continuing the great service of Scuba Mau. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either one!

  • 2. Cozumel Palace
    Cozumel Palace, Cozumel

Best All-inclusive on the island. Service is wonderful, food is fantastic, and the rooms are spacious and clean. Hotel is directly on the ocean, but there are no natural beaches. The water is great for snorkeling and they have an awesome pool.

  • 3. Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa
Presidente Inter-Continental Cozumel Resort & Spa, Cozumel

Best non-all inclusive on the island. Rooms are great and the beach is very nice. Just beware that this hotel is located on the southern side of Cozumel, which means shorter boat rides for divers, but town is about 15-20 minutes away.

  • 4. Especias Restaurante
    New Especias Restaurante, Cozumel

Great food and you always feel very welcomed by the owner.

  • 5. BOB's Cozumel
    BOB's Cozumel, Cozumel

My new favorite bar! Right off the town square and the last trip we had a blast here for the Halloween party. They even had some wings out for free and they were awesome...don't be scared of the habenero!

  • 6. La Choza
    La Choza Cozumel, Cozumel

An old favorite for traditional yucatecan specialties and good seafood.

  • 7. East Side

Take some time to travel to the east side. It is beautiful and so much fun to beach and bar hop the whole way. DO NOT RENT A SCOOTER! So many people are injured this way. Rent a car or negotiate a day rate with a taxi driver. Stops at Mezcalitos, Coconuts, and Marleys are a must for drinks. The shrimp at Mezcalitos are great. Food at Chen Rio is very good but the waiters tend to be a bit pushy if you just want drinks (at least that was my experience). Playa Bonita has good food also, strangely we found the meat items better than the seafood. Great Service here also.

  • 8. Rock 'n Java Caribbean Cafe
Rock 'n Java Caribbean Cafe, Cozumel

Everything is good here! Have stopped in for breakfast and lunch and haven't had a meal that I didn't love.

  • 9. Casa Denis
    Casa Denis, Cozumel

Maybe not the best food on the island, but good food and close to the square where there are sometimes bands (especially Sunday) and lots of activity. Nice feel to this spot.

  • 10. El Turix
El Turix, Mexico City, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast

If you are adventurous and like authentic food, this is the spot. Very hard to find, but worth the trouble if she is serving Cochinita Pabil, an authentic pork dish from the region. It's basically like eating in a local's kitchen and the food is crazy good. Be careful not to eat anything that goes against the recommendation of if it isn't peeled or cooked don't eat it (salad!). That has served me well in a lot of countries outside of the US.

  • 11. The Money Bar
The Money Bar Beach Club, Cozumel

Great bar, clean facilities. There are bands some nights and it's a great way to spend an evening. Have seen a lot of snorkeling here but haven't tried it myselft. There is no natural beach here but the sunsets are spectacular.

  • 12. Parque Punta Sur
    Faro Celerain Ecological Reserve, Cozumel

Fun place to visit. Has an area to see crocodiles, a lighthouse and a nice beach area. Decent snorkeling here but it is a far swim out to reef. Make sure you are a decent swimmer and do it as a drift snorkel, go with the current and just swim to shore and walk back when you are done. Don't ever try to fight the current....you won't win. There are trolley cars (a bit rough around the edges) that will take you to each spot of interest within the park.
