I really enjoyed taking the bus from Phenom Penh to Siem Reap on the Mekong Express line. It was only $10 and it was really clean and safe. It stops for a break half way along the trip and everyone gets back on with little bags of fried crickets to munch on. It was easier than the long boat ride, which I've heard can be amazing for the views, but the river was low when I was there, and that can make the trip much slower.

1. Cambodia transportation- tuk tuk drivers in Siem Reap
tons of tuk tuk drivers wait at the siem reap bus station when you arrive. i found a great guy who i just hired to stay with me for 2 1/2 days. he would meet me in the mornings at whatever time we decided on, and then we'd break for lunch, and then meet back up later. It was about $30 for less than 3 days. I thought having your own tuk tuk in siem reap was the best way to go after spending 4 days in Phenom Penh... at least in the capital, it's more like NYC where you can flag down taxis and motorscooters... in Siem Reap, most of the tuk tuk drivers are on call for the people who have hired them out for x-amount of days.
I love fabric, and silk, and this farm visit was really worthwhile. I think children make like it because you get to see the mulberry farm, and then see the worms, and the different stages of the cocoon's life. I went alone, and it was great because I got a private tour. I think they're used to tour buses showing up...The tour is free. I felt like I was a princess with special treatment when they said they were giving me a tour... it was great!! The tuk tuk ride is kind of long, but I was glad I did it because I saw the first and only water buffalo after 8 days in Cambodia.. I had been looking out for them in the days before!
I ate dinner here and it's very delicious, but not as edgy and cool as the FCC in Phenom Penh. It's very contemporary and modern... I met a couple of other single travelers, so it's a good place to go if you want a good meal and some familiarity with the west. The fish amok was pretty good! I recommend it if you want to see some of the "scene". It would also be a good place to take children as it is very clean and nice. It was a pretty sophisticated crowd... but how can you be too sophisticated on the dusty streets of Siem Reap? Ha ha! I loved it there. I love Cambodia!
