  • 1. Coco Lezzone

Coco Lezzone is another romantic, lovely Italian restaurant, situated in Toronto's Little Italy. We had a wonderful birthday celebration here and it was enjoyed by everyone. The service is not fast paced so if you are in a rush you may want to dine somewhere else. However, for a nice relaxing dinner when you have plenty of time it is a great place, The food everyone ordered was excellent with a beautiful presentation. They have a varied menu including specialties like pistachio crusted goat cheese, homemade gnocchi, lobster raviol and much more. The prices are what you would expect to pay at a classy restaurant. I especially like how all the trees on the street are all lit up with twinkling lights.... it was the perfect end to a lovely evening at Coco Lezzone.

  • 2. Messis

I have read several times that Messis is one of the most under rated restaurants in Toronto. In fact, we would never have heard about it ourselves, if it wasn't for a lady at a furniture store in Toronto asking us where we were going for dinner that night. We told her we hadn't decided yet and she strongly recommended Messis to us. She said it was a great place with excellent food and service and very reasonable prices for the quality of the food. And she was right on all accounts. We were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed our dinner. The restaurant itself is quite small, but a lot of thought has gone into the decor to try and make the most of the space. It is nicely decorated and has a lovely ambience, very relaxing and romantic. Their pasta and pizza's are very tasty and if someone in your party does not favour Italian, they do offer other choices such as chicken, lamb and salmon to name a few. I feel very confident highly recommending this restaurant. I don't think you would be disappointed having dinner at Messis.

  • 3. Via Allegro

Via Allegro is a lovely restaurant, it has much charm, character and a great atmosphere. It is a restaurant that works for a large group of people or if you are looking for a more intimate setting. There is a huge chandelier in the main section of the space with candles rather than lights, which adds a nice touch. The food is amazing, presentation is magnificent on everything from their signature dishes to the more extravagant ones. Via Allegro has the largest wine list I have ever seen in my life... gigantic encyclopedia comes to mind. It is not surprising this restaurant has won several awards of distinction. The only drawbacks are it is not close to downtown Toronto and it is quite expensive. However it should still be considered for a special evening or if you just feel like splurging. I am very much looking forward to dining there again!

  • 4. Donatello

This restaurant is very elegant and has a romantic ambience. The food is exquisite...the recipes brought over straight from Italy. I have dined here many times over the years, before the theatre, on special occasions and for no reason at all, and I have always had an extraordinary dining experience. The restaurant is small and very nicely decorated, you can tell a lot of thought went into every aspect of it. We find the service very good and we have always felt welcomed here. The prices are not cheap, not the most expensive either. I have always felt our dinners here are well worth the cost. I can honestly say I have never heard anything negative about this wonderful restaurant.

  • 5. Rocco's Plum Tomato

If you like gnocchi, Rocco's Plum Tomato is the place for you. Rocco's, has a few restaurants around the city, and they also offer a take out menu. Besides pasta, and pizzas they have several other choices including their amazing salads. The atmosphere in their restaurants is casual and perfect for family dining. The restaurants are decorated in super, bright colours, which does add to the overall lively atmosphere. The service is consistently good and the prices are very reasonable. I have dined at a few of their locations in Toronto, and have always been more than a satisfied customer.

  • 6. Il Fornello

I have yet to try pizza anywhere in Toronto that is as good as the pizza at Il Fornello. There are several locatons in Toronto however do not let that discourage you, it is not your typical chain type of pizza. There are different types of thin crusts to choose from as well as several pizza combinations. They bake their pizzas in a traditonal wood fired oven and I think that is probably what makes it so tasty. For a few dollars more they offer a gluten free pizza crust which is a nice option. The Insalata Roma is one of my favorite salads at Il Fornello, it is a combination of greens, goats cheese, walnuts, roasted red peppers with a balsamic vinagrette. It doesn't get much better than that as far as salads go. Il Fornello also offers many other Italian dishes which I have tried many of and have enjoyed every one of them a lot. I am not usually a fan of brunches although I have to say Il Fornello makes a fine brunch. Just to note....not all locatons offer brunches. Il Fornello can't be beat as far as their pizza goes and the price is very reasonable. I will list the rest of my fav Italian restaurants soon!
