Two commercial airports serve the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is one of the world’s busiest airports and a hub for American Airlines. The airport has non-stop service to about 150 US destinations and more than 50 international destinations in Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America. Among the most popular destinations: Atlanta, Cancun, Chicago, Denver, London, Los Angeles, Mexico City and Tokyo.

Dallas Love Field (DAL) is anchored by Southwest Airlines and is also served by Delta Air Lines/Delta Connection, SeaPort Airlines and United Express. The busiest routes include Houston, San Antonio, Austin and Kansas City.

When Dallas-area residents travel, their trips often take them to other big cities. New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Denver and Seattle are all popular destinations.

When searching for cheap flights, ensure that you’re looking for flights from both DFW and DAL, and that you’re searching alternative airports in your destination city, too. If you’re traveling to New York City, for example, flights are available on several airlines from DFW to Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark airports. Similarly, if flying to San Francisco, also consider flights into the Oakland and San Jose airports.

American has non-stop flights from DFW to a number of beach destinations, including Cancun, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Honolulu, Kahului, Miami and Montego Bay. Spirit Airlines flies to Cancun, Fort Myers and Myrtle Beach. Sun Country Airlines flies between DFW and Cancun, with seasonal flights to Cozumel, Montego Bay, Puerto Vallarta and Punta Cana. Cheap flights may be easiest to find during the off season and on routes served by more than one airline.

When planning your beach vacation, remember that the Atlantic-Caribbean-Gulf of Mexico hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. The eastern Pacific hurricane season—which includes Hawaii and the west coast of Mexico—is from May 15 to November 30, though hurricanes are less common compared to the Atlantic Ocean.
