Arriving in Charlotte

Charlotte is a friendly city with a rich history and beautiful landscape, making it a wonderful vacation destination. After booking your airfare to Charlotte, you will arrive at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

Once your Charlotte flight lands, you'll find that the airport is easily accessible and boasts ample shopping and restaurants, a business center and free Wi-Fi. The Carolinas Aviation Museum is located at the airport as well. The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) operates a route that connects the airport to the downtown Charlotte Transportation Center. There are also shuttle services and taxis available to take you to your hotel.

Getting Around Charlotte

Main roads in Charlotte are reasonably easy to navigate if you choose to explore by rental car. Because Charlotte is a mostly suburban city, this is usually the most convenient way to get around. Be sure to get a map or GPS from the car rental agency to help you find your way. Taxis are also available throughout the city, but they can be expensive.

Public transportation is easily accessible in Charlotte and includes a light-rail system called LYNX, the bus line CATS, and the Charlotte Trolley, which is a replica streetcar that operates on portions of the LYNX line. Walking and bicycling are also good options while exploring the downtown area.

There is something for everyone to do in Charlotte, whether you enjoy history, the great outdoors, or simply exploring. History buffs will love exploring the museums and historical sites throughout Charlotte. The Levine Museum of the New South, Charlotte Historic Trolley Museum, and the James K. Polk Historic Site are noteworthy stops.

Nature Lovers won't be left out. Check out the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens or the Charlotte Nature Museum, or one of the many parks throughout the city. Charlotte is not lacking in arts either, so you will have a multitude of theaters to choose from. And kids will love the Discovery Place. Charlotte also has plenty of sporting venues, including NASCAR.

Shopping, Dining, and Nightlife

Now that you've saved money on your cheap flight to Charlotte, you should check out some of the great shopping. There are many malls in the Charlotte area to choose from, but if you are looking for something a little more unique, the Dilworth and Plaza-Midwood areas are worth exploring. There are also many flea markets scattered around Charlotte.

Southern cooking and barbecue restaurants are predominant in Charlotte. Surprisingly, some of Charlotte's older restaurants are owned by Greek families, and you will find some Greek cuisine on an otherwise American menu from time to time. For a fun night out, check out one of the many sports bars, or stop by Whisky River, owned by NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt, Jr., featuring dancing and live entertainment. However you like to spend your vacation, you'll be glad you booked a flight to Charlotte.
