Arriving at Zanzibar

There are a number of international airlines that have flights to Zanzibar, including Kenya Airways, Air Tanzania, and South African airlines. In addition to these, you can opt for cheap flights to Zanzibar by booking a seat with one of the international carriers that fly into the capital of Tanzania. These international carriers include British Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, and Emirates. Once you arrive at the capital city, you can then look into airfare to Zanzibar from one of the local carriers that conduct domestic Zanzibar flights.

Getting Around Zanzibar

The most convenient mode of transportation for tourists in Zanzibar would be taxis. Most hotels will arrange for a taxi on your behalf. However, you should keep in mind that some of the hotels get a commission from the taxi services for providing business to them, so you may find that the prices vary from one hotel to another. Another mode of transportation is the "dalla-dalla". These are small mini-vans that act as public transport around the island as well as on the mainland. If comfort is what you are looking for, you could always hire a private car, but this tends to be more expensive than other modes of transportation.

Main Attractions in Zanzibar

There are loads of attractions in Zanzibar, which is known as the Spice Island because of all the spice trade that used to take place centuries ago. You can go on a spice tour and purchase spices at extremely affordable rates. Another major attraction of Zanzibar is the Stone Town, which has one of the largest open-air markets in the world. If you love nature, Jozani Forest has amazing nature trails through mangrove forests. There are also a number of historical sites that could wow any tourist. Be sure to take a visit to the House of Wonders as well as The Arab Fort for a dose of Zanzibar's historical culture.

There are a number of duty-free shops that sell items ranging from kangas to vanilla pods! For more shopping, you can visit Stone Town and sample the shops that line the street.
