Flights to Sydney will land at the Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport, the country’s busiest airport and the oldest commercial airport in the world. It is located approximately 6 kilometers from the city center. It also hosts 35 different airlines that provide Sydney flights in and out of the country. Airfare to Sydney is expensive if you take first class seats. However, you can always get cheap flights to Sydney by taking economy class seats at lower prices. You can also get cheaper prices by booking on days when airlines charge least.
To get to the different parts of the city, the best ride to take is the suburban train, which requires a GatePass sold for $11.00 in addition to a ticket. Take note that the train can be crowded during peak hours, but you can take other transportation such as a local bus or a taxi (which also don’t require the GatePass). Local bus transport costs $3.30 and a taxi service can cost around $30 or more, depending upon the destination. For a short stay in Sydney, it is a good idea to rent a car; you pick it up at a destined parking space and return it to the same area afterwards.
The city is famous for landmarks including the Harbour Bridge, Opera House, Olympic Park, Sydney Tower, and St. Mary’s Cathedral. It is also the famous location of The Rocks, the Parramatta, and the Anzac War Memorial. Prior to the European inhabitants of the area, Sydney was once extensively occupied by the Aborigines. Their culture can be experienced through the Rock Carvings in Royal National Park, Aboriginal Art around The Rocks and the Meeting of Civilisations at Kurnell. In addition to Aboriginal culture, the city is a popular destination for wildlife enthusiasts. Famous attractions include Taronga Zoo, Koala Park Sanctuary, and Sydney Wildlife World.
There are numerous souvenir shops around the city, too many too mention. In addition, there are also many shops, convenience stores, and fast-food restaurants to cater to every tourist. Do not spend too much in one shop though, as there are many that may capture your attention. As for food, some of the famous Sydney restaurants include Rockpool (seafood) and Icebergs Dining Room. The suburb of Bondi also offers many interesting cuisines, European and Asian. As for drinks, the many bars of the city are open until 3 AM, but some close as early as 11 PM or never close at all.
