There are two airports in Saint Lucia: the George F. L. Charles Airport and Hewanorra International Airport. Hewanorra International Airport is the larger of the two airports and is managed by the Saint Lucia Air and Seaport Authorities. This airport also handles at least 500, 000 passengers a year. George F. L. Airport, formerly named Vigie Airport, is located 2 kilometers north of Castries, which is the capital city of St Lucia. Flights to St. Lucia land in both airports regularly.

Getting Around St. Lucia

Once your St. Lucia flight lands, the most effective way to get around the island is by taxi. Taxis can be arranged by the hotel, taxi agencies, or by individual operators. For those who are slightly more restricted to a budget, there are local buses available that provide cheap and fun way to get around. These buses are small vans that hold around ten to fourteen passengers and vary in quality.

There are many places to see while in St. Lucia. Tourist attractions include Sulfur springs, the majestic Pitons, and a drive-in volcano. Most tourists visit St. Lucia by arriving on a cruise ship. These tourists tend to visit the Castries, Marigot Bay, and Gros Islet. Sulfur Springs are pools of hot water and are one of the island’s main attractions. There are also hikes available through the rainforest with designated hiking trails. There are also activities such as strenuous hiking, rock climbing, and snorkeling available for the active tourists.
