Sequoia Village Inn Questions & Answers

St. Petersburg, Florida

I have been researching for a place to stay for an upcoming trip 9/27/14 for 3 nights. My thought was to perhaps book one night at Sequoia Village Inn - the next morning travel into Sequoia National Park and stay within the park for 2 night.. How long of a drive is it from Sequoia Village Inn to Sequoia National Park? For instance "Big Sherman"? Thank you very much for any input.

From the Inn to the park entrance is only 3-5 min drive. To get to Big Sherman really depends how many pull outs you stop at and if the road construction is still going on. With stopping a moderate amount to take in the sites I'd say it should take you about 90 min or so. Make sure to visit Big Sherman, the visitors center, tunnel tree, and for sure the National Forest within the park. That's where the really really big trees are hiding out, you will be in awe for sure. Just look for it on the map the ranger gives you at the entrance. It should be really close to the Big Sherman tree.

Also the best time to start your day in the park would be around 7am

The Inn is literally around the corner from the park entrance. General Sherman was about an hours drive but we went slow and stopped a few times to take photos. You could get the the Sherman parking lot within 45mins without stopping.

The Inn is a wonderful base and a great place to come back to after a days hike. It's so close to the park that we decided to stay there and drive in each day.

Hope this helped. Have a great trip, we did!

Thank you Tim and Shan for your valuable advice. I cannot seem to make a decision about lodging for 2 nights. I was concerned about the drive to highlights we would like to see. Wrapping my head around the geography - distances - vs time has my head spinning. I'm very interest in the Alta Peak Trail - think we would enjoy that small hike.

I really did not want to spend $200 + a night to stay at Wuksachi Lodge when Village Inn appears to be a better value / acccommodations.

45 min is not very long - so up and back only 1 1/2 hours each day - prob lots to see anyways.

Thank you again for your information I truly appreciate as all the reading - fact finding I do cannot compare with some who had been there - done that.

Have a great day!
