Davis-Monthan Air Force Base Questions & Answers

London

I plan to visit in December. A few questions:

Am I correct in thinking the morning tour is 11am and lasts 90 minutes

I understand I cannot take any baggage onto the AMARG coach, will there be any baggage storage at the Pima museum - I plan to go straight to the airport after visiting

Finally, it says you must book 10 days in advance for the AMARG tour, I assume I could book earlier - I am coming from the UK so want to avoid disappointment

Hi,

There are no storage facilities available at the Museum, you will have to leave your luggage in your car. You will only be permitted to take your camera on board and from what I understand no camera bags are allowed on the tour bus.

On arrival at D-M the bus is stopped, you all get off while the on-base Security check the bus over and re-check you ID / details. Once on D-M you are not at ay time permitted to get off the bus unless instructed to do so by the guide or base Security personnel.

Always wise to book well in advance of any tour that you want to do so that you as a person can be 'checked out', sort of Advanced Passenger Information (API) that you need to enter various contries around the world nowadays.

Another way to see AMARC is by flying over it with one of the local flight schools base at Tucson Intl. Airport or out at Ryan Field.

If you'd like details of these please email me

Yes you can book earlier, when we visited we booked a couple of months in advance. I don't believe there is any place there that you can leave luggage, at least none that I saw, They get busy

- On arrival you will need to leave everything on the coach and wait outside whilst the bus itself and remaining contents are searched.

- Yes, the morning tour starts at 11.00 and last 90 minutes.

No baggage storage area so you either carry it or they won't let you bring it.

Good dayfellow traveller,

In short I'd say if you are intending to visit the PASM then go to their website and follow their guidance. There is a 15 minute video about the museum and how to book and what you can and can't do on the 309th AMARG tour over at D-M AFB.

There are NO storage facilities at PASM so any luggage you have will have to be left in the vehicle in the parking lot.

I also try to do a flight over the 309th AMARG / DM AFB, my preferred company is Double Eagle Aviation who are at Sth Apron Dr. Tucson a short drive from the International Airport. In March it cost me $100 for the flight which lasted about 35 minutes.

I hope this has been of some help to you; enjoy the experience(s) and apologies for no links to websites as that is against trip advisors rules.

We made sure we didn't have any baggage. You can register from around three months before. Just keep an eye on the website and the months pop up when you can register. It must be ten days before the trip. We heard we were successful about 10 days before.

- Not sure about storage availability for back packs etc., as we left our 'excess' in the car. There is an info. page, so suggest you e-mail the Museum - they answer quickly.

- As you board the coach, you will be checked for what you are carrying with you.

- you can book up to 90 days in advance and up to 10 days to allow for security clearance as you will be visiting an active military installation.

- On arrival you will need to leave everything on the coach and wait outside whilst the bus itself and remaining contents are searched.

- Yes, the morning tour starts at 11.00 and last 90 minutes.

Hope the above helps.

One day each year in the Fall, Amarg has a boneyard run/walk through the stored planes. It is really impressive.

Your tour is not the same event as mine.

Have fun.
