Hi there -
My fiance and I are getting married at City Hall this April. I am curious is anyone knows if the judges personalize the ceremony at all? We had a (short) reading we were hoping for, but didn't know if that was allowed. If not, it's not the end of the world - just trying to understand what to expect.
Lastly - we were hoping to request the 4th floor. Does anyone know how likely it is to get a special request granted? We're getting married on a Monday.
Thanks for your help and guidance!
I thought I'd follow-up with my own questions since others might also have the same question - we got married in the last 30-minute window. There were 3 couples assigned for that window. We requested the last slot and received it. Our judge was very nice. Her statements were actually very endearing and genuine - much sweeter than I anticipated. She was very accommodating, even though she was running behind schedule.
After the ceremony in the Rotunda, we went to the 4th floor, and took some photos & also read our own personal vows to each other. It worked perfectly, and allowed us to have a private moment with each other, while also being in such a wonderful place.
I would recommend getting married at SF City Hall to anyone. It was perfect for what we wanted/hoped for, and it's a stunning piece of architecture.
Hi there,
I realize your wedding has already happened, but I thought I’d answer for other people who might have the same question.
The ceremonies are not personalized usually. Every now and then, I have seen a marriage commissioner let a couple Read very brief personal vows.
The fourth floor is rented by the event Department by the hour. If you want your wedding there, call them at City Hall to book the space. The marriage commissioners generally have a tight schedule and do their ceremonies one after the other on the second floor in the rotunda.

I️ read online they marry 3 couples within 30 minutes, I’m sure as long as there is no events they can accommodate your request just check with their schedule first
Sorry but we were only there to visit and take pics. Did not ask any questions.
I recommend you call them. Weddings are common over there. We saw 3 parties in the two hours we were there. They are very accommodating, something they pride themselves in, but they do have rules. Please call them directly.
