Urquhart Castle Questions & Answers

Temecula, California

Hello,

We will be visiting Urquhart Castle in a couple weeks. It is my husband, me and our almost 7 year old boys. How much time do you think we should allow for visiting the Castle?

Our next apartment has someone meeting us there so I am trying my best to figure out timing for the day!

Thank You,

Stacy

Hi. I recommend that you start your day early as he would anytime you’re traveling. Urquhart Castle has a lot to see and places to wander. The scenery is magnificent. Now close by is The Loch Ness exhibit for you to visit which might be fun for your boys. Off to the side you can get your picture taken with Nessie. If you would like to just stop by and get your picture taken with Nessie, there is a photo op to the right of the entrance. This is all dependent on your time. Your boys may enjoy it as we did not have the time to do that. There is so many photo ops on the way there that looks out to Loch Ness. For a lovely lunch and spot stop at Fort Agustis on the Caledonian canal. It is a little further south from Urquhart castle and sits on the Caledonian canal. Happy holiday!!!

Hi Stacy

The castle is mostly destroyed not much to explore inside other than taking the stairs to the tower lookout and some of that is outside you need a vivid imagination to recreate what it was . There is a visitor center gives you the history. The outside is large and covers the castle's foot print. We were there 3 weeks ago it was sunny. For the boys there is a gate that goes down to the Loch that they might find interesting 1.5 hr at the most

Hi Stacy

The visitor centre and castle can be toured in c2hrs or so. There is plenty to see and do and maybe another hour on top would be advisable. Whatever you do, the pre tour presentation in the visitor centre auditorium is an absolute must. This lasts for around 20mins with a spectacular end!

Enjoy your stay in Scotland. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!

King regards
