Is it easy to get around the castle or are there difficult/steep/narrow steps? Are there handrails?
It is quite steep all round. There are handrails.
There are lots of flat paths but also steep and narrow steps especially down to the walkway and also to some of the rooms in the castle. There are also handrails on staircases and it does accommodate for those less able.
Ground level of the castle is okay but there are narrow paths to the upper castle, I can't remember if there are handrails. There are also some narrow steps within the castle which may prove difficult for less able bodied or elderly people. Definitely don't go to Mont Orgiuel if you have any difficulties as my mother had to sit in the coffee shop for the entire visit, she is 87, my husband is 67 and I'm a year younger to give you some idea of our levels of fitness. Hope this helps.
Most of the castle is accessed by slopes. The only steps are those leading up the main tower.
What may need assistance is the transportation across to the castle. It is an amphibious bus and at the castle it is a narrow gangway but help is always available.
