Castle Crags State Park Questions & Answers

Bend, Oregon

I'm coming down to Dunsmuir via Amtrak. I understand I cannot hike along I-5 to the Park, nor is there a legal path or trail from Dunsmuir (because you cannot walk along the tracks and must still cross the Sacramento river). Is there a bus that stops at the park?

You can hike. On the EAST side of the freeway, between the freeway and the river, there are regular roads you can walk straight from Dunsmuir to Castle Crags park. You can cross under the freeway and into the campground at an underpass that you'll spot on your right, and follow that path either up to the connector trails to the Crags, or down to the visitor center. Stop on your way and check out a gorgeous foot bridge over the Sacramento river, pop over and stick your toes in the river on the way back from your hike.

Not sure. Check with the Dunsmuir Chamber. They can give you all the information you need. I can tell you that you have to drive up to the viewpoint and only cars were seen up there when we were there.
