I was wondering if it's possible to take the 8km road to the lodge with a SUV which is not a 4x4? It is a high vehicle, a Hyundai Creta.
Thank you in advance.
I thought that it might be easier to go with our own car, but after reading all of you comments we'll take the transportation. Thank you for the information!
ps: do you guys have other useful tips for travelling in Jordan?
I don't think it's a good idea. it's a very rocky road - literally there are pretty big rocks everywhere, and it's a rough ride even in a 4x4. I can imagine you could damage your vehicle. We hiked one way and the lodge arranged transportation on the way back.
I wouldn't recommend it. There are nuances to navigating the road that could be a real drag if you're not aware of them. And as someone else pointed out, Feynan is the end of the road.
We parked in a secure lot in the village and got a lift to the lodge with a Bedouin driver. It's a nominal cost and it's good for the local economy. Have a great time! It's a beautiful experience.
The Road to Feynan Lodge is made of large cobbles and passes over several dry river beds. A determined driver might be able to make it in an SUV but I wouldn't try it in mine.
More to the point I think it is policy of the Lodge that visitors dont take their vehicles up the access road. The local Bedouin run the taxi service from the collection point in their own vehicles. the price of this is covered in the accommodation charge. It is part of their livelihood
Where are you travelling from ?
Yes it should be possible but I check with the lodge. It's a good quality dirt road that buses go up and down.
I agree this is possible but of such marginal value I wouldn’t recommend it.
There are a few challenging places on the road and I would not like to drive them in bad weather. Why risk it when there is no up side in having a vehicle at the lodge. There is nowhere to go except back to the reception.
