Hello, can anyone tell me the approx. cost for a taxi from PuDong Airport to the Raddison? Am also considering catching the Maglev high speed train into the city but then not sure how we'd get to the hotel as I understand the station is not close - can we transfer to another Metro to Peoples Square? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks
Way too much. Don't take a cab. When you arrive in Pudong, go up to the second floor, to the MAG-LEV which is a fast train (300km/hr) for around $12US roundtrip. Then where it stops, take the Metro line 2 (4-6 yuan) to People's Square, where you get out at Exit 7, I believe. It's right across the street. It's faster, and it's part of the experience.
Remember that when you get out of the maglev, you will exit, go down an escalator, cross a paved alley, and enter the Metro. Before you leave the airport see if you can get some single Yuan coins, for the automated ticket machine. As I said earlier, it should cost only 4 yuan. Take a minute to figure out how that kiosk works. It is touchscreen and has English or Chinese interface. Not that hard. And once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to use the Metro all over the city.
The Taxi would cost around 185 RMB with the traffic.
If you use the Maglev / Metro option (use exit 8 at people's square) its bang opposite the entrance.
Taxi flag fall is 14yuan, hardly expensive compared to western cities.
185yuan from Pudong to downtown shanghai a distance of some 45 km is cheap £20 or $28 try that from either Heathrow or any other major world airport to the city centre.
Shuttle service (modern electric vehicle) from Hotell to AirPort was 80 yuan. Very smooth. Contact the Hotell and ask for the reverse service.
Take the Maglev from the airport - it comes every 10 minutes. A quick easy change over at the subway interchange and changeover to line that goes out to People Square. Raddison Blu is directly across the road. Easiest and cheapest way.
Looks like the Maglev/Metro is the way to go. Just looked at the schedules and the last train from the airport is 21.42. Our flight (China Eastern Airlines) is scheduled to arrive at 20.00. Is it feasible to get through customs and to the train before its last service at 21.42? ie. how long does it normally take to clear customs get bags etc once flight landed?
Excellent, thanks for your feedback. Sounds like I get to experience the Maglev after all - as you say ashalat it's more about the experience but a bonus if it's faster and cheaper option also.
