Hi - Alpaca provide a suggested amount per porter that you can give as a group. Its a bit confusing as you don't know numbers before you start but in the end it works out. Our group did the maths quickly (number of us Vs number of porters) and gave 140 soles tip each (total). We also gave the guide 50 soles each the next day so 200 soles total (£50 - but very well deserved!). The way we looked at it it's 10% of the trip cost which is pretty standard!

We gave 60 soles per porter, which equates to about $20 US, which is what Alpaca recommends. You will want to give them all the soles by the time you finish because of how awesome they are.

On our 4day/3night inca trail trek we followed our guides suggestion of $120 soles for the Chef and a further $60 soles for the porter. As for the guide that is up to you. Our guide was exceptional and he really made the trip extra special. Tipped him $200 soles.

Hi...Alpaca suggested that each porter should receive around 60 soles (about $20 US) at the end of the trip, the chef should get about double that and the guide was up to our discretion. In the end the total depends on how many hikers are in your group and how many porters you have. But it was money well earned...the porters really worked hard to make our trip comfortable and the chef did an outstanding job on our meals. The porters and chef are usually paid in soles but your guide can be paid in dollars or soles. Your total might be around $75 for each hiker.
