how often did the water taxi run? where did you find the water taxi? Was there an option to rent kayaks or wind surfers?
Taxis went when there was a need and we prearrranged the return trip. Yes you can rent kayaks and paddle boards but make sure you go at high tide otherwise it’s a bit of a walk out to coral. My friend paddle boarded out to the island one day and there were heaps of wind surfers going back and forth.
Sorry my previous comment was about ilot aux canards, ilot Maitre, taxi runs about the same but you can't swim the crossing .
Taxi runs every 10 to 15 minutes. You buy your ticket at the kiosk on the beach about 1500 Franc CP , around $15 Aus. Taxi runs all day till 5 pm. the crossing take only 3 to 5 minutes. Yes you can rent windsurf paddle boat or you can swim if you want its only 600m to 750m. I used to swim there in the 80's before the bar restaurant was built.
Our friends said it is at minimum every hour, but now it is on demand. We went over twice and waited no more than 15 minutes. They ask you to nominate a return time but you just line up on the beach any time and first in best dressed! But the next one again only 15 min later. The first time we went to Ile du Canard on the return from Ilot Maitre if you want to do both.
The taxi runs almost 'on demand' -waiting till there are enough people to justify a trip. It leaves from a kiosk at Ainse Vata Bay. The trip only takes 15 min. You need to nominate a return time on the way over. You can hire kayaks on the Island...
& jet skis I think.
We got the water taxi from beach hut booking office on Anse Vata beach and they go first to Isle de Canard then at request take any passengers on to Ilot Maitre and come back for you at time you ask for. You can hire kayaks on Anse Vata beach but not sure about wind surfers. I think water taxis run hourly we got one at 11 am and they came back to collect us at 3pm
