Wondering the best way to tour Bergen for a day off our cruise ship. The offerings from the ship don't sound so great. Is the town within walking distance from the port? Did you do the funicular? Any advice would be appreciated. email@example.com
Most of Bergen is easily walkable, and do remember there is a bus! The drivers will speak a fair amount of English, if Norwegian is not your first (or your second or your third...) language, so they can help you if you can’t seem to figure out the routes and schedules (I never could!) Alot of Bergen can be seen in a day, so you should have no trouble getting in alot of sights on your own. There are plenty of guided tours in town, but I did everything solo and on my own with a little research and planning before I arrived and felt I got just as much out of it as I would have with a tour. The Bryggen wharf is not to be missed (but heads up, some of the shops inside were a bit disappointing) and hiking up Mt. Fløyen offered some amazing views (there’s also a cable car if you’re strapped for time/not favoring a work out!) Hope this helps? Bergen was fantastic, you’re going to have a great time!
Yes most of Bergen is within walking distance from the port I believe, if it ports where I think it does. You should be smack in the middle of it. Minutes walk for most of Bergen centrums activities, but activities such as Fantoft Stave Church might be best to book through the cruise liner.
