Are there benches to sit and rest? Am thinking about taking my elderly mother but am worried about all the walking and if she'll be able to tolerate walking and have places to sit and rest

There are benches however there is also a lot of walking required to see the exhibits. In addition, there are a couple of fairly steep hills to climb (to see the Stave Church). It is well worth the time but substantial walking is required.

A certain amount of the exhibits are also easily accessible with a wheelchair, if your mother use that or other mobility aids.

The museum do to its nature is on a large piece of land. There are interesting indoor exhibitions that is close to the entrance. As far as outdoor exhibit goes, it is possible to walk only as far as you want and then cross back. The stave church is a walk up a steep paved path, but there are resting placed and it is well worth seeing. You do not need to every one of the buildings to get good benefit from the visit.

Yes, there is benches and places to rest. Most of the museum is on the same level, although there are places that are on a higher ground. There is two (sometimes three) cafés on the area in addition to the areas with benches outside.

Like the other answers you received, There are places to sit there is a lot of flat paved areas that are wheelchair accessible, but it is a large open area With some steep inclines, some paved walking areas, some cobblestone, And some buildings that are not wheelchair accessible. The Viking ship museum is very close to this location, and would also be worth seeing And is entirely flat, and all indoors.
