Someone said there is currently construction at the park. We are visiting in the end of May. How is the construction affecting the view of the sculptures?
Some weeks ago half of the main sculpture was under reconstruction, so that part was completely inaccessible. A week ago they were working on another part, but it was possible to walk around. It is not a good view when all the construction materials are clinging around. I hope that they finish soon, but I don't know when.
Sorry, just saw this question: It does spoil the park as the area around the central monument - key to the design - is fenced off, meaning the views just don't work as intended. Fine if you are thre anyway - and the Oslo city museum at the park entrance is worth a visit - but otherwise not worth trecking out there in my opinion.
I am not sure about may ,sorry. But when I visited in Feb 2017 , some work was going on but not on the sculptures
When we visited they are doing some repairs on the steps leading up to the fantastic obelisk. Some of the statues are therefore protected in crates. Despite this most of them are on view and I would still highly recommend a visit as this did not spoil our experience at all. We went at sunset when it was quieter and the sunset was spectacular.
The largest park in central parts of Oslo and a popular recreational area for people from all over the city.
Inside the park you find Vigeland Sculpture Park, one of Oslo's most popular attractions.
On a nice day the park is full of people; here you can go for a run, walk the dog, have a picnic or barbecue, play badminton or just enjoy the sun. Frogner Park has Norway's biggest collection of roses; a total of 14,000 plants of 150 different species.
Frogner Stadium and Frognerbadet open-air pool are located in the corner of the park that faces Majorstua. In the corner near Frogner plass you can visit Frogner Manor House and Oslo City Museum.
The park has a café and a restaurant open in summer, and children can play on Norway's biggest playground, located near the main entrance.
The current construction work has only a small negative effect . 95% of the visitors still rate it excellent and very worth a visit.
