Is the house only accessible with a guided tour? One of the reviews mentioned Sunday afternoons (times?) are possible without a guided tour - is this correct?
My experience is that there are tour times / limited number of people admitted but accessible. You might want to check when you arrive in Milan about accessibility (hotel concierge) but I think you can get in with ease....I don't remember having an issue and I've been twice.
As of November '16, the Villa is only accessible via guided tour. Be sure to explore the surrounding neighborhood, as it's full of interesting architectural landmarks.
As far as I know, you DO NOT need to do a guided tour. When we went we were able to walk around the house and the grounds freely and take our time. A special exhibit was in place throughout the house and we had no problem with getting in, lines or tickets in advance. I did not do a guided tour.
