FIRST OFF, be forewarned...we are the type of people that don't look for things to complain about, and we also live by the "don't sweat the small stuff and its all small stuff" motto. So if you are one of those that just seem to almost always complain about SOMETHING, skip this review. Still here? GOOD! JUST got back from a 4 day cruise on the Valor out of New Orleans with a stop in Cozumel. Crew was amazing as always. LOTS of activities all day everyday, OR, you can do what we did and just lay out on the lido deck, watch the fun contests, enjoy the music, and get some sun. FOOD: Food was delicious as always. Did the "Anytime Dining" for the first time and it will be what we choose moving forward. Its from 5:30-9:30 (I might be a few minutes off but that's basically the time frame), and you just check in with your Hub app that you download and it lets you know when the table is ready. You can sit with other folks or just sit with your party, which my girlfriend and I did each night as this was her birthday cruise. Dinner was good....and I had the chocolate melting cake each night we were there and it was delicious as always. We also did the steak house one night and it was delicious. We both had steak, and I got the lobster which was also good. ENTERTAINMENT: There is something for you to do from morning till night, or you can just chillax on the lido deck. Music day and night. In the evening there are comedy shows, the piano bar (awesome fun!), and music all over. There is also the dance club which goes into the wee hours of the morning if that's your thing! ALCOHOL: For the first time we got the Cheers package which is now $59.95 per person a day and you have to get it for all people in a cabin that are 21 and over. All alcohol included, as well as unlimited bottle water, specialty coffee, juices, sodas, and energy drinks (none of those count towards your per-day drink total). For those that don't know, it lets you drink up to 15 alcoholic drinks a day including beer.. We did not come close to 15 each day per person but we figured it out and at the end we still would have spent more than the package cost us, so we will be doing that again next cruise. NOTE: WE ARE NOT BIG DRINKERS, but with mixed drinks being about 10 bucks apiece, beer being around $6-7.00 a piece, and specialty coffee (like French Press or Starbucks) being around $5.00 a piece, its not hard to hit the price and get MORE than your moneys worth. CABIN: We had a balcony cabin this time because it was my girlfriends birthday cruise. Cabin was awesome! Balcony was great to have to just sit out and look at the water or watch as we left New Orleans or arrived in Cozumel. I usually get an oceanview and those cabins are also great. STAFF: Simply awesome. EVERY single one of 'em were friendly and helpful. I can't express how amazing it is that those men and women work VERY long hours yet always greet you with a smile and a hello. OVERALL: 11 out of 10! This was my 12th Carnival cruise and we will be going on another around the end of the year and many more after that.

We had planned this short cruise for 2020 but two weeks before we were scheduled to go, COVID shut down the cruising industry. We decided to take it 2 years later, due to Carnival's generous deal. The 5-day cruise took off from New Orleans to Cozumel and Progreso, then back to NOLA. This was our fifth cruise and first on Carnival. The experience was a good one. Staff was friendly, passengers were equally as friendly (I think it was a combination of finally getting away and the friendliness of mainly southern travelers). At first I thought the food portions at the restaurants were on the small side, but as it turned out, they were just enough...no food was wasted by too-big portions! The best beef tenderloin I've ever had! After a couple of mornings trying to maneuver through the crowds on the Lido deck for luke-warm breakfast choices, we opted to spend the rest of our mornings at the Washington diningroom. The week we went was just before Easter, so there were a lot of families onboard, which means a lot of kids in the pool. We didn't spend much time up there, opting to work on our tans on the balcony of our suite. We were given the opportunity to upgrade to a suite a few months beforehand, and glad we did. It comes with some "perks" like express embarkation, rooms ready when we boarded at 11 am, 2 free bottles of water, and bathrobes to use. Just having a "normal" sized bathroom and a room the size of a normal hotel room was great too. As far as entertainment...it was okay. The comedy club shows were great, the musical shows so-so. We did take part in some trivia time, which there were several to choose from every day. I think the only regret I had -- and it's on me -- was I should have chosen the Cozumel / Costa Maya cruise instead of the Cozumel / Progreso. Progreso didn't have much to offer. It was our second time to Cozumel and was a good stop.

We booked this on a whim. We truly enjoyed ourselves, it being our very first cruise. I was very impressed with the cleanliness, the friendly and well trained staff. The food was as expected, but included with the cost, so no complaints. I can't say enough good things about the staff! They are wonderful! Our table stewards, Cesar & Gabor, were very professional and friendly. Our cabin steward, Wayan, was excellent! The staff takes the time to learn your name, and they do their job with pride.

Carnival cruises are a great deal but the cost-cutting is becoming very obvious. The port of New Orleans debarking and parking process can ruin your vacation. More detail inside.

Not being a cruise snob, we booked the Valor knowing it was a smaller, older ship than the new Mega-ships. We couldn't have been more pleased. The ship was beautiful, clean and easy to navigate. We had an aft balcony on floor 7 which made an easy 2 floors up to the Lido and 2 floors down to our dining. We used the stairs exclusively to burn some extra calories. The staff were all attentive, friendly and willing to do whatever it takes to ensure you have a great vacation.
