What travelers are saying
- HLSHWSCharlottesville, VA12 contributionsBeautiful little cove for swimming. My husband and I like to arrive by 9AM and lay in the sun on a towel on the beach for a little while and then rent chairs under the shade. It's a fun place to swim. Great people watching too as by 11AM-ish it starts to get pretty busy. Lots of families in the shallow water laughing and having a great time. Rental chairs are comfortable and a nice break from the sun. Excellent half day.Written March 13, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - digitalrocCalgary, Canada1,869 contributionsAlthough I spent 4-nights in Playa Principal, I spent a lot of time in Zicatela. I really enjoyed Playa Zicatela, from the beautiful wide-open beach, to the sounds of the waves crashing in, very soothing for me. Playa Zicatela is a long beach, there are parts of the beach that aren’t that very nice, but there are stretches of clean sand with barely any tourists around, that I enjoyed! Also, I liked the shopping and the number of restaurants along Del Morro Avenue, although there weren’t many tourists here for a mid-December time frame, which I had no issues with.Written January 15, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Louise W13 contributionsI recently did the turtle release and bioluminescent tour with Eve and I can't recommend him enough. He was so knowledgeable and was really funny too. - digitalrocCalgary, Canada1,869 contributionsI rode my scooter to Playa Bacocho to check it out prior to the baby sea turtle release. I stayed well past sunset to get some fantastic photos, the water started to mist from the wind and it was really warm and the sand was fine, a very nice beach!Written January 17, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Paco J1 contributionThe beach next to it was better. Less crowded and the restaurant staff took netter care of you. The restaurants were packed but they provided umbrellas and chairs right on the beach. We plan to return.Written February 28, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Sandra HVancouver Island, Canada3 contributionsPuerto Escondido is an amazing place…bustling with youthful energy in La Punta and lots of sophisticated night spots in central. Our son and grandson enjoyed surfing daily, we loved the Mercado Zicatela-the fresh fruit & vegetables so flavourful, made shopping fun…highly recommended for warm beach winter escape…Written January 5, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Katrina De FoyKelowna, Canada8 contributionsThis is also known as Hidden Beach, you have to walk down a hill to get here so those with mobility issues this might not be a great place to visit. The water is super blue and the sand is really white, very beautiful spot. It's more of a locals beach so not as many people come here, never crowded which is nice. We did some snorkeling here and saw lots of fish!Written February 9, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - digitalrocCalgary, Canada1,869 contributionsI love these types of street markets, there are the culture of Mexico! I ended up coming here a few times during my 6-night stay in PE. I was fortunate that my hotel was close by, so I could just walk down. I ended up purchasing two hand painted vases from El Delfin Plateado, that were absolutely beautiful! If you want to do souvenir shopping while in PE, this is the place to do it!Written January 14, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Bob KHuatulco, Mexico20 contributionshave been going to Puerto Escondido for 30+ years. i enjoy body surfing and the waves at Marinero typically have been great. stomrs at sea and unusual currents changed the beach in late January. hopefully there will be a return to normalcy!Written February 18, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rowan HCairns, Australia1,355 contributionsPlaya Principal is essentially contiguous with Playa Zicatela, separated only by a few large rocks. However, the vibes are very different. Calmer waters means it is used as a docking area for the boats offering tours which are constantly zooming in and out of the bay. With this comes pollution including fuel on the surface of the water. It is more suitable for swimming though. The hotels above it also are a lot grittier as well and it seems to be more favoured by local rather than international tourists. Overall we didn’t think much of it.Written July 29, 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
