Fantastic place to visit, large open space for lovely walks along the river, lots of things to see especially The museum and gardens, 30 minutes drive from junction 41 on the M1 heading south.
Lovely walk round the museum and gardens with the kids there are a few areas where the children can draw and do puzzles and it all free can easily pass a few hours on inside and outside would definitely recommend

PS also thoroughly recommend the (related) Millennium Gallery immediately across the road, which had a really though-provoking series of exhibits when we visited in April 2018.
The gallery was a relatively quiet place filled with impressive and seminal works from intriguing artists, like James Barry.

It provides a full day out if the weather is good as there is also an extensive outdoor play area, also a wet play area so take swimming costumes and towels to make full use of everything.
The 10.30 magna mayhem session for under 5’s is brilliant as a lot of places don’t really cater for toddlers, we had some lunch and then went round the museum.
