- therichastillStevenage, UK3,492 contributionsDorset Scenic Lookout Tower is located in Dorset and a short drive from Dwight. You can park at the bottom of the hill and pay a small amount or you can drive up the hill and pay a bit more and park closer to the tower.
We did the latter and there is quite a bit of parking so you should be able to find a spot.
To get to the top of the tower you have to climb a metal staircase and there are places to pause and admire the view or get your breath back.
Obviously there are stairs and they are a bit steep so I would not recommend climbing this if you are a person who struggles with stairs or heights. You may not want to take children up unless you are sure they can manage the climb.
That said it is a magnificent view from the top of the surrounding area.
Back at the bottom there are other places you can get a view including Peek-a-boo Rock and also check out the giant binoculars.
There is a gift shop which also sells refreshments like drinks and snacks there so you can get some souvenirs of your visit.Written October 21, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We jumped at the chance to visit when we were told that it was indeed opening during the Dorset Snowball on February 15 2020. There are so many stories and artifacts in such a small place and the volunteer was helpful and enthusiastic. We had a wonderful little visit.Written February 18, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Debra W1 contributionMy husband and I have visited Robinson’s frequently over the past 20 years and have always enjoyed our stops there. We have introduced other family members and friends to the wonders of the store. Our visit this month was very disappointing. The changes there were not positive. Many of our favourite features were gone and the grocery was deplete of fresh foods. We left with nothing. We will not waste our time again. Such a disappointment given the wonderful reputation that Robinson's has always had.Written September 15, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Randall LWoodstock, Canada61 contributionsWe had an excellent afternoon cruise last Friday. The SS Bigwin has been beautifully restored and the trip is great for anyone with an interest in ships and boats, the history of that area, or looking for a beautiful sightseeing outing on Lake of Bays. Quiet vessel with its electric power, staff and crew are very welcoming and provide an interesting and informative commentary on the story of commerce and tourism on the lake. Get there a little early to see the exhibits in their museum.
If you are travelling on Hwy 11, it's easy to turn off at Huntsville going south or Bracebridge going north and swing around by Dorset. Make sure you call ahead or make a reservation on the website above on the Trip Advisor site.
Definitely a hidden gem for visitors and others in that area.Written June 9, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews. - Kevin1 contributionI am so appreciative of Old Mill Marina!
I had a boat breakdown on a Friday morning of my vacation...it was terrible, the whole family was up and the kids had been looking forward to getting out on the water our whole way to the cottage.
I walked into the friendliest environment here, the staff were so personable and helpful.
Although it was short notice on a busy weekend, the owner heard that I was in a bad circumstance and went out of his way to help me figure out the problem. After figuring out what was wrong with my boat, they were even able to get my boat into the shop for repairs the next day (Saturday).
To top it all off, while my kids waited in the store we indulged in some ice cream which was a welcomed treat after all that we had been dealing with.
I don't know what I would have done without Old Mill Marina. Forever grateful.Written May 1, 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. A bit pricey as it is cottage country but WELL WORTH the money for a WAFFLE CONE!!! Anything more than a very generous single scoop is just unnecessarily indulgent!!!!Written August 18, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
