It celebrated 100 years of its existence in 2019. It has now two main sections- the Kala Bhavan and the SANGEET Bhavan.
Asit Kumar Haldar took over as its first head. The four giants associated with the Kala Bhavan were Ravindranath Tagore, Nand Lal Bose, Ramkinkar Baij and Benode Bihari MUKHERJEE.
Thousands of art pieces are on display at the Kala Bhavan and include works of the giants.
It’s an open air museum where most pieces are on display. University departments, student hostels as well as the art pieces of the de facto museum co exist.
We saw the now famous works of Ramkinker Baij namely the Santhal Family, Gandhi at Salt March etc., paintings of Nand Lal Bose works of Benode Behari MUKHERJEE.
Kala Bhavan also a panorama of Indian art. The original chhatim tree no longer exists but the legacy continues and the place is now a heritage. We took rounds of the site and it felt ecstatic. Much recommended.Written January 12, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- stantp1916Farakka, India1,247 contributionsThe abode of music and dance. Last time around I remember there were classes going inside. This time we went late in the afternoon and were lucky to capture a quick peek of the inside before the guards were closing off the gates. Must be great learning opportunity.Written January 12, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
- stantp1916Farakka, India1,247 contributionsOur approach was from the back as we went on to see this after chhatimtala. Huge building, for the humanities study. Like all other buildings, you could take a stroll around but not enter, unless you’re a student. Nevertheless it still felt good to circle around this place.Written January 13, 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of TripAdvisor LLC.
