This review of our October trip is a bit late but I would have to say one of my best experiences while visiting China. We were met at our hotel by Jay, who turned out to be a very informative and personable guide for the day. Not only did he share information about the center and the pandas, but we talked about life experiences in our countries, things of interest to both of us and how we as Americans are in love with the pandas. We enjoyed acting as panda keepers while the pandas watched us clean out their areas. Feeding them their snacks was such a treat as well as just watching them eat their bamboo and sit in their enclosures. We had a nice lunch and gained lots of information from a video about the research centers. Another highlight included seeing Red Pandas and some bears at the centers.

This tour is a great tour if you are interested in the history of Taoism and the great engineering marvels that supported China's ancient civilizations. My tour guide (Worley) was very knowledgeable, super friendly and I had a great time with her. I loved the lunch she took me to (restaurant near a local university, very local) and the fruits a good snack for the hiking trip. Make sure you dress warm because it will be cold in winter!

We booked with WestChinagGo a daily tour for "Panda Feeding+Dujiangyan Irrigation System". Everything was perfectly organized (thanks to Lily support) and our tour guide (Terry) was very helpful. He gave us a lot of recommendations to enjoy our time in Chengdu. His english is perfect! If you love panda the feeding experience is highly recommended, you will see one panda very close! even if for two minutes...
and the irrigation system is pretty unique in the world and the location is very nice. We went in summertime and even if it was very crowded, we love the experience.

This is an odd one to review, because there are two aspects: the Panda Volunteering at Dujiangyuan, and West China Go who helped arrange it.

I’ll start with the latter and say this: if you are not Chinese and you’ve decided on the Dujiangyuan panda day, you should absolutely book through West China Go. Lily, who was my contact, was helpful, efficient, easy to correspond with, and I felt like she has a passion for what she’s doing. Most importantly for me, she dealt with the required medical form via email, saving a lot of money, time and hassle of doing this privately in our home country. The West China Go package also included transportation and entrance fees to the panda base, so it was fully inclusive of pretty much everything you need for the day.

Regarding the panda volunteering, you really need to be aware of what you’re getting. If you’re just browsing tours and you have a lot of money to spend to get close to pandas, this isn’t for you. Don’t get me wrong: it *will* cost a lot and you *will* get closer to pandas than your average tourist, including a chance to feed them a few sticks of carrot, but that’s not what the volunteering day is about. You will also spend time smashing bamboo against the ground, making ‘cake’ for the pandas, eating unfamiliar Chinese food in the staff canteen, and sweeping up panda poo. Is it an authentic ‘day-in-the-life’ of a panda keeper? No, it’s way easier than that. But it’s a bit of fun and something different.

Personally, I had a great day. Yes, it was the most expensive thing we did in a two-week tour of China. Yes, it was a long car journey from Chengdu. Yes, the panda feeding time was short. Yes, there is nearly two hours of free time during the day (we used this to see other pandas, plus red pandas and black bears also at the centre). But if seeing pandas is on your “must do” list in China/Chengdu, and you want to devote more to the experience than just going to a zoo, then I highly recommend this as a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Just be aware of what’s offered and you won’t be disappointed.

We had the pleasure to travel in September to Sichuan for a 9 days private trip in Chengdu, Mount Emei, Jiuzhaigou, Dujiangyan. Thanks to Jack for flawless organisation of guides , Jerry and May , transportation , visits and hotels booking. May shared her knowledge and passion about this province of China, in a perfect way; she s was great guide and support in any circumstances. We had opportunity to discover Sichuan culture and food. It was an incredible trip, from pandas to landscapes and chinese history. We would recommend Jack and our guides Jerry and May without hesitation.

We had an early morning start with a limo ride out to the country. The scenery was great and the food on the way was a cultural experience I will never forget. Ask for the Chillie fish! ...and no it’s not that spicy. My guide, Lucy, made me a priority for the day. Lucy explained many of the cultural significances of the area as we enjoyed a hike to the top of Mount Qingcheng. I even bought some fruit from a lady on the way with WeChat. The Dujiangyan irrigation system was pretty amazing to see. 2000+ years old and still functional. I truly enjoyed my day and can say that without Lucy’s passion for her country I would not have such a memorable experience. Highly recommended. Go Lucy! Yes, I will be back.

This trip to the panda sanctuary was fantastic. My driver, WuWei, arrived early and had a sign with my name on it. This allayed any fears about whose car I was going to get in. The pandas had just been fed. I got some amazing photos and videos which delighted my little heart. I posted 50 on Facebook and was afraid people would just "Like" and not look. My friends were as enamored with these black and white stuffed toys come to life as I was. I wanted to ride the trolley but ever figured out how. The Tea room was closed and unkept. :( The toilet I went in was dirty. The grounds were well-kept. Walking paths are peaceful and well-maintained. The animals for the most part seemed content--the pandas happily chomped on the bamboo stalks. I would definitely go again.

Best guide for the Chengdu area !! Thank you !!
Mount Qingcheng is a mountain in Dujiangyan, Sichuan, China. It is considered one of the birthplaces of Taoism and one of the most important Taoist centres in China. In Taoist mythology, it was the site of the Yellow Emperor's studies with Ning Fengzi. As a centre of the Taoist religion it became host to many temples. The visit was amazing and guide was perfect
