A independent visit to Cayo Santa Maria..
Our goal was to visit the remout beach of Playa las Gaviotas ...
.the only beach in the island which is free (a 5$ enter ticket at the entrance) and untouched by the large resorts and hotels....
The Gaviotas supposed to be a presarved Park ...
We arranged a trip from Caibarien town by old American car (cost 15-17$ per person the transport, return and waiting from 9.00 to 16.00 local time communication with these drivers WhatsApp number ENDY 5353674784) .
After entering the Causeway- in a few klm we reached a checkpoint....
At that checkpoint we were informed by the drivers that we HAVE to buy a ticket- voucher cost 20$ in order ti enter to Cayo Santa Maria..
..then we realised that was a ticket not to enter to Cayo-island...BUT was a ticket to enter to specific Hotel( Pueblo Flor de Sal) and during our stay there we could spend 15$ for lunch....
I suggest that was a commition for car drivers and to specific tourist agency ...and NOT a ticket to enter to Cayo Santa Maria
Finally we went to Playa Gaviotas....this is the best beach in Cuba and probably to all Caribbeans....a miracle of nature... amazing colours... White sand for kilometres and nobody there....there are same hats for our protection from the sun....
Be careful from that drap....with the obligatory ticket-voucher at the entrance

My friend and I booked the Dolphin excursion from our Sunwing rep at our resort in Cayo Santa Maria. We rode the catamaran, snorkeling, snacks, lobster or pork lunch and then a 40 min beach adventure. It was a blast. I am not a fan of the constant Cuban music while at the resort and then again on the catamaran, but they finally played English music on our way back to the bus. We also had a guest appearance of Shakira while on the Catamaran named Fenix. It was hilarious. Such a fun group of guys entertained us while on this adventure. Bring extra cash if you wish to swim with the dolphins on top of your dolphin experience. I believe it was $20.

What an experience as we walked from Paradisus Los Cayos and that was about a 40 min walk. I would recommend water shoes and bringing along bottled water if you’re doing a fair distance. The tide was low so the ocean was at ankle height for at least 200’ from shore. The water and scenery was definitely worth the walk

I stayed at the Royalton which is a 10min trolley ride from your resort. My mom and I discovered this area on our last day in Cuba. It’s great to buy your souvenirs here as the airport was more expensive for the same type of souvenirs. There were more shops like restaurants, ice cream stores and night clubs in the area, but I specifically came to buy souvenirs. Overall it was a charming area to visit.

Things didn’t seem overly open at the market. And not as many vendors. That being said, I bought more from vendors at this market than the larger one. Did not eat here though.

A bit confusing when you go in.
You meet with someone at a desk who gives you a list of their plentiful services.
You choose what you want then the guy at the desk talks to someone else, kinda looked like a manager. They talk back and forth while you are there waiting
Eventually wisked away for a spa treatment that was very nice.
Most employees dont speak english, not a big deal.
    Overall i recommend.

    The Iberostar Daiquiri
    Cayo Guillermo, Cuba
    “On the Upswing!”

Just got back from my second visit to the Daiquiri in Cayo Guillermo, Cuba. . I was with my sister who has been there eight times! She knows what she is talking about!
We were there last year and this time it was a very different experience. They are definitely on the post pandemic upswing! The resort was fully open and very lively.
We had a very easy check in and found our rooms to be clean and welcoming. The maid service (Milagros) was excellent! A minor hiccup with the air conditioning was fixed within minutes!
At night the lobby was full of life with star quality entertainment there, and later in the show room. Michael Jackson!
The bar service was superb! Thanks Brian! Were there TEMPORARY shortages? Yes. But you could just go over to the other bar and what you were looking for was there! We didn’t have time to sober up! 😉
The beach is beautiful, clean, lots of chairs, friendly lifeguards; Jesus, Sammy and Frank!
Best surprise! The Daiquiri has a new hairdresser, Gerardo. I had a haircut and a pedicure! My sister went twice to have her hair French braided and a pedicure! BEST hair salon service ever! Five star!
Guest Services and Quality Control under the direction of Marianela and her staff, Keven and others, could not have been better! They make us feel part of the Iberostar family! Gracias!
Food? It’s Cuba. We didn’t ever go hungry. The pig roast was excellent. The Cuban restaurant’s lamb was succulent! There were fries at the pool bar. The wait service in the buffet was the best! Yannice and Ernesto took such good care of us! As did the others!
All in all, we got much more than our money’s worth. So much so, we are booking for two weeks next year! ¡Hasta la próxima!
