The bridge is not very long, tatally made by wood, but very strong. Heard of if there was in the holiday, we can see some ethnic performance here.

This old and interesting area of small villages off minorities is very pleasant to see.
Lots of old buildings, bridges etc. Of course they live off tourist now but you get a feeling how it was like in the old days. I hope they keep it preserved like it is now and do not turn it in to another Lijang.

We took the fast train from Guilin to Sanjiang to see the Drum Tower. The train ride was pleasant and comfortable and the tower was picturesque and interesting to see, and so were the small surrounding villages. Actually there are several similar towers but, once you saw the tallest and the biggest, seeing the others a kind of looses importance, the more that the mid-day heat is really strong... All together, it makes for in interesting and recommended half a day trip from Guilin.

The Dong people take their drum tower as a place to discuss important matters and hold special events.
Mapang Drum Tower is in Mapang Country, 1 hour away from Sanjiang. I stayed overnight at a friend's near the Chinese Spring Festival and the next morning we took a walk to the tower. On the way, we saw villagers killing pigs and washing veggies in the river, in busy preparation for the big day. The tower is older and more authentic than the one in Sanjiang. Sadly nowadays, it is not as live-up as it used to be, since the youth generation enjoys something more high-tech than an old-fashion gather-up or celebration, my friend told me.

Danzhou Ancient City is a unique island community on the road from Sanjiang to Liuzhou in north-central Guangxi. I stopped off during a three-day bike trip through the region. I was there on a weekday, so travelers were fewer than otherwise would be. The locals are eager to chat away about the unique history of the island, which s God because the official tourist office at the ferry launch from which you take the boats to the island is not in the least bit helpful. Great food options on the island, by the way.

We spent two nights in Ma'an village within the area.
Superficially it is very 'rural China' but it wasn't until the day time that we discovered that beyond where we had entered there is a ticket pay desk. We also realised that one paddy rice field, wit a cow in it...the cow, swan, calf and water buffalo were all actually statues not real animals.
To some extent then it is China done as a theme park
Very pretty though, but getting rapidly over developed. Neuw building, guest houses going up everywhere
