Well worth a visit to see the wonderful carvings, Gothic and Renaissance tomb sculptures, well-preserved cloisters, and the only 15th century high altar to survive in any Irish monastic church.
One sight we found well worth exploring was Sligo Abbey, a Dominican friary built in 1252 or 1253 by Maurice Fitzgerald, Second Baron of Offaly (a place name that always tempts me to giggle).
