Unfortunately the clouds sat too low and the volcano wasn’t cooperative! Suggestion for the tour operators: be more punctual or at least post a sign of what to expect! 5:00 start time indicated gather at 4:45 - we stood around worried that we were in the wrong place for 1/2 hour… when the operator arrived, we were given helmets and a headlight - completed the paperwork and then waited around even more!! After inquiring we were told we were waiting for another group! - AmyLJSouth Wales, UK288 contributionsOn our second visit to Stromboli there was in our view no other option but to take the nightime Sciara tour again with Pasquale! Yet again all expectations were surpassed. Stromboli this year was even more active than it was in 2020 and a truly mindblowing night was had.
We did in fact pay upfront for 2 trips with Pasquale in advance - it is that good! - but unfortunately the weather was not on our side and Pasquale decided it was not safe to run our second trip - which having already paid for was promptly refunded to us at a significant financial loss to himself. The safety of everyone was clearly of the utmost importance. This was also reflected when I asked if it would be possible to board the boat from a jetty close to our villa rather than going over to the main port but Pasquale refused as it is far safer to board at the port. My elderly father came along and had no difficulties entering or leaving the boat. We always feel safe with Pasquale, he does know these waters like the back of his hand after all!
Pasquale's communications by email were amazing prior to our trip and then by continually updating us once we arrived so we could plan our days around the likelihood of our trip running that evening.
Taking the Sciara tours with Pasquale is the only way to do Stromboli in our opinion. Yes there are bigger boats and slightly cheaper prices but the personal experience cannot be beaten! Pasquale even provided us with red wine & nuts once the sun started to set on the Sciara, such lovely little touches.
Overall another truly memorable and unforgettable experience which we will treasure in our memories forever, thank you so much Pasquale! - Daniel RBeijing, China6 contributionsThe boat, the crew, and the punctuality are all on point. The locations are beautiful, and the information given on board is great (Italian, German, English). No complaints about that.
However, next time I would take a one-way trip and do the rest on my own. All of the Eolian islands are connected by ferries and I felt I could stay overnight in a place like Lipari, and visit the islands on my own timing. I did not enjoy the group-excursion trip-type: people running over themselves to make pictures off the boat, the waiting around for the boat, the lines to get in and out. An extra boat tour is offered, which takes you to nice places with good commentary, but the music blasting through the speakers on the way is deafening.
So, IMHO, not for me and I would not do it again, but I see the advantages of something like this for other people.
BTW, if you take this tour, SIT ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BOAT. Just our group of friends on the private luxury boat navigate to the most beautiful small islands of Sicily. We had our private guide, very well educated, friendly, perfect English-speaking. We had a stop in Lipari and Vulcano and it was amazing. Vulcano is very particular with a specific smell, but must see 100%! Lipari is very cozy, colorful and beautiful, seems like a fairytale with the small houses... We had a very tasty lunch there. This ‘private’ boat excursion is basically €80 (not €75 as you have to pay a shed load of tax) to get a 2 hour bus ride then you are stuffed onto a packed ferry full of angry tourists who have been sold the dream but in reality, it was a nightmare. The islands are ugly, busy and I simply have nothing good to report. You are left to your own devices and any swimming options are limited/poor. The ‘food’ in the port areas are all fatty/greasy tourist muck and not Sicilian cuisine. It’s just naff and utterly unenjoyable. I beg you to take this all in, otherwise you will lose a day of your holiday.

The boat was confortable, we were seating on the first floor, there were about 50% occupancy (about 4 people for each table of 8). We landed on Panarea and avoided the crowds by walking to the secluded spaggia della calcara where we swam alone before heading back to the boat. We saw some dolphins on the way then landed on Stromboli. Time for another swim before walking through the village and eating a delicious pizza at Da Luciano, with a fantastic view over the sea. For the final leg, after going around strombolichio, the boat stayed around the Stromboli crater for 30-45min, allowing us to see 5-6 lava spouts, with the passengers cheering. We finally headed back to Milazzo, with the back of the boat turning into a dance floor while many of the passengers fell asleep after a good day. Silvestro and Emanuela were amazing hosts and we were able to see Vulcano from the water, snorkel on great, private beaches, soak in a hot springs and also stop for some amazing pizza for lunch. From the super friendly hosts to the delicious snacks caught by the skipper and the vegetables grown in the family garden, all was perfect.
The views are incredible and such a beautiful sunset, all a perfect setting for my proposal in marriage to my beloved…..luckily she said yes!
Thank you so much for hosting this wonderful and magical time for us.
