This place is amazing - reasonably priced - went to the Kaka talk and feeding which was awesome! Saw the Kiwi, Tui, Eels, Tuatara, etc.
Well worth it - Highly recommended.

We were looking for something to do on a rainy day in Masterton and this place did not disappoint. It is a fascinating collection and the owner is very knowledgeable about the origins of the cars.
Best to call ahead as it isn't open every day. He opened up for us especially which was a lovely thing to do.

Thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. The volunteers who shared their knowledge with us were superb. I learned a lot of things about flying in WWI. Highly recommend to anyone. The planes are spectacular.

Our first vineyard along the Wairarapa Wine Trail and it didn't disappoint. We met the lovely Kathryn who provided us with a tasting, at no cost. Johner Estate is set in an absolutely beautiful location, and well worth the trip. We tried five or six wines, which Kathryn, being easy to follow, was very informative of and she was very friendly. We made a purchase which was lovely. When we had finished the tasting Kathryn walked us out to our vehicle, chatting along the way and we met a nice chap called Martin. It was a really affectionate, down to Earth experience, with good wine. Our kind of place!

It's always a feature of a visit to Masterton to walk some of the Lake Henley circuit. Well formed paths are suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. Lots of ducks to watch out for. Very peaceful.

Great museum, Not big in size but did not disappoint. Staff were very friendly and reasonable entry fee. Great place to take visitors from overseas to show a little of Heartland New Zealand.

We managed to spend some time browsing through this delightful art museum and were not disappointed. The gentleman at the counter gave us a good overview of the different galleries to set us up on what to expect. We really enjoyed browsing through and savouring the different pieces from photography to paintings to 3D displays. Had a lovely time. No entry fees but donations are accepted. Would recommend.

We stopped here enroute to Masterton. Bought some strawberries and apricots, lots of yummy local produce available. Good service! Outside is well laid out enclosure of various animals. Very welcoming for young children. Loved the spotted red cow visitor signage on the roadside.

I recently went up Mount Holdsworth near Masterton New Zealand. I did the Holdsworth track up and down, not taking the Jumbo circuit route. It took us 8 hours and 45 minutes which is faster than the guide book. We took the Gentle Annie track up to Mountain House. This is the easy section, from there once you cross a level saddle the track gets steep and challenging. If you are not reasonably fit don't even try. It is many years since I last went up Holdsworth and DoC has installed many wooden stair cases. I am not sure I like these as the step spacing was sometimes awkward but in some areas they make for safer climbing. It is a strenuous climb up to Powell Hut (under reconstruction and looking excellent) before you rise above the bush line and on to a rocky tussock covered exposed ridge. In windy, wet or snowy conditions this last half kilometre to the summit could be very dangerous so be careful. The day we did it was a beautiful sunny day but in the past I have been driven back by snow. The summit is 1470metres (4,823 ft) and market with a trig station.

We found the literature helpfully displayed. We felt as though we were being encouraged to explore Masterton, Wairarapa and further afield.
